Wikipedia: The red-wattled lapwing (Vanellus indicus) is an Asian lapwing or large plover, a wader in the family Charadriidae. Like other lapwings they are ground birds that are incapable of perching. Their characteristic loud alarm calls are indicators of human or animal movements and the sounds have been variously rendered as did he do it or pity to do it leading to the colloquial name of did-he-do-it bird. Usually seen in pairs or small groups and usually not far from water they sometimes form large aggregations in the non-breeding season (winter). They nest in a ground scrape laying three to four camouflaged eggs. Adults near the nest fly around, diving at potential predators while calling noisily. The cryptically patterned chicks hatch and immediately follow their parents to feed, hiding by lying low on the ground or in the grass when threatened.

(Note: I was trying to get chick and parent in the same frame, but the parent tries to lead you away from the chicks as a strategy of defense. If you happen to get too close both parents will continuously dive bomb you.)

Southeast Alaska offers some of the best fishing in the world, and Doc and I have spent many enjoyable days behind our fishing rods. In this image you see one of our son's as he sets the hook, in the waters of the Inside Passage.
Southeast Financial Center is a 233 metre tall office skyscraper in Downtown Miami. Completed in 1984, the building was designed by Edward Charles Bassett of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill.
After Snowmageddon 2018 struck the southeastern coast of Georgia a few days ago, there are areas where the white stuff has hung on.

We've had the 3rd wettest July on record for our area. Usually we get only 65mm of rainfall but this year we got 167mm in July.
The garden has been soggy and muddy for most of the summer....and, the MOSQUITOES !!! I haven't been able to get out at all.
This morning it was only +11C and windy...so I thought... time to try. Luckily.. I picked the right morning. Hardly any found me in the 2 hours I spent out there ..in long sleeves and long pants....happily tidying, cutting and digging and planting.
Finally got my last 2 tiny chrysanthemums planted... they've been sitting around for a few weeks now... patiently awaiting their spot in the yard.

I have watched the sun move from the northeast sky to the southeast sky over the past few months. That's a sure sign of Spring!

The Obersee is a natural lake in the extreme southeast Berchtesgadener Land district of the German state of Bavaria, near the Austrian border. All of the lake is within the Berchtesgaden National Park. It is located southeast of the much larger Königssee.
The two lakes are separated through a moraine. A massive rockfall in 1172 is sometimes referred to as the cause of the separation of the two lakes but Obersee was most likely never part of the larger Königssee and always separated. There are no villages near the lake, the only dwelling being the small Fischunkelalm which is only occupied during the summer month.

Der Obersee ist ein natürlicher Bergsee in den Berchtesgadener Alpen in Oberbayern.
Das Einzugsgebiet des Sees erstreckt sich über 38 km², mit einer mittleren Tiefe von 29,60 m und einer maximalen von 51 m hat er ein Wasservolumen von 16.855.000 m³. Mit einer Länge von 1,32 km, einer Breite von 0,42 km und einem Umfang von 3,5 km umfasst er eine Wasserfläche von 57 Hektar. Sein Wasserspiegel liegt bei 613,1 m ü. NN.
Vom wenig nördlich gelegenen Königssee ist er durch einen Moränenwall, dessen Ausdehnung auf 700 m Länge, 800 m Breite und 320 m Höhe geschätzt wird, getrennt. Der Schutt eines im Jahr 1172 niedergegangenen Bergsturzes liegt in Form mächtiger Blöcke noch heute sichtbar im Auwald des Talgrunds und den Aualmen der Saletalm.
Am Südufer liegt auf einer Höhe von 620 m ü. NN die 500 Jahre alte Fischunkelalm, die von Mitte Mai bis Mitte Oktober von zwei Sennerinnen bewirtschaftet wird.
An den Längsseiten des insellosen Sees ragen 1000 m hohe Felswände auf, während am südlichen Ufer das Gelände sanft ansteigt. Von der dahinter aufsteigenden 470 m hohen Röthwand stürzt der Röthbachfall auf den Almboden herab, und von der nördlich sich anschließenden Brustwand der Landtalgraben. Die Bäche vereinigen sich und versickern in der Fischunkel, dem hintersten Teil des Tals, und fließen dem Obersee unterirdisch zu.
Der Obersee speist über einen rund 600 m langen Wildbach den Königssee, der Saletbach genannt wird. Auf halbem Wege zum Königssee weitet sich der Bach nach Süden zum kleinen Mittersee. Dieser ist rund 110 m lang und 60 m breit, bei einer Größe von nur 0,44 ha. Der Wasserspiegel liegt auf einer Höhe von 608 m ü. NN.
Der Obersee wird seit der Schaffung des Nationalparks Berchtesgaden am 1. August 1978 nicht mehr befischt. Heute finden sich im Obersee zahlreiche Fischarten, darunter vor allem der Seesaibling und die Seeforelle.
