Stop Pointing Fingers borrows its colour scheme from a street STOP sign. This painting is the latest addition to my grey tone series where I feature two colours against a black and white composition. At the top of the painting I have balanced the red beach hat against a yellow caramel colour of the sandy beach.
The reason for the stop and look gesture of these ladies was because of a big wave surge in front of the North Narrabeen ocean pool. The lady in the white hat is pointing to a lone surfer who is riding a very large wave towards the beach. And even these locals, who have seen big surf many times before, had to stop and look.
My favourite detail in this composition was painting the shadows cast on the cement walkway. I like how the ladies bent pointed finger casts a faint shadow above the cement join in the pavement. It seems that everything is pushing the viewers eye towards the unseen horizon. And with this artwork, I continued with the STOP sign theme by making a timber floating frame in white with a red insert to match the colours used in the painting.

Balga Feeding Rainbows is a series of paintings celebrating the beauty of our unique flora and fauna. The Balga plant is a favourite of mine. I admire the fountain shape of its leaves and the benefits the plant brings to the natural environment. The Indigenous people discovered many riches that included food and medicine.
They are some interesting web pages explaining the many uses for the Balga. I liked one page that told of Indigenous people using the leaf blade as a knife for cutting through meat. And I can agree, as I have had a few knife cuts from trimming the leaves.
I have a backyard full of these plants that produce a large spiked flower around January. This annual flowering attracts another favourite of mine - the cheeky Rainbow Lorikeet.
The colour palette offered by the birds’ plumage is a delight to the eyes. It seems mother nature through the idea of camouflage out the window when it came to the dress code of this species. It wasn’t until I started to paint the background for this series that I started to appreciate how well the bird blends into the vivid colours of our Australian sky and native plants.
The Timbertown bullock train in Wauchope N.S.W provided me with the inspiration for this painting, and it is an artwork that can blend beautifully with a variety of colour schemes in your home.
RGB (red, green, and blue) is a colour system used by computers and when they are combined in different ratios provide a rainbow of colours. This painting is from my grey tone series where a majority of the painting is done in greys, black and pale iridescent white. The key subjects are highlighted in colour.
The bullock’s yokes are purposely painted in yellow and symbolise bringing the hard work of the RGB bullocks forward into the digital age. Timbertown celebrates its 40th year in operation in 2017 and the B&W photograph taken by me was taken 39 years ago long before we could imagine how important RGB would be to digital photography.

Calgary Saddledome.
This picture taken by me in September, and the town was buzzing ready to host the Calgary Winter Olympics in 1988. This is a city that has undergone many changes since 1988, and those vacant blocks on 1 ST SE and 13th Avenue are not vacant today. The friendly locals told me 2 things about Calgary's winter that have stuck with me.
I'd noticed that every building had two sets of doors to enter. No sooner would you push through a heavy set of doors and you'd be confronted with another set inside. In Sydney I'm so used to sliding glass doors. The next thing I'd noticed was electrical plugs dangling out of all the cars front grill. Finally this had got the better of me and I asked the 2 questions at a local pub. The answer to seemingly unrelated questions was the same answer - winter.
In winter people wear so many layers that the first set of doors stop all the hot air escaping and allows you to take some layers off before entering. And it gets so cold that oil can freeze in your motor. Man that must be cold. So they keep the engine warm by plugging them in at night!

I waited for the iconic Ford LTD Crown Victoria taxi to make its grand entrance at the bottom of Lombard Street with streets famous eight hairpin turns in May 1988 to secure this photo. 1991 was the last year of the production of the #fordltd (11 years in production) and Ford had managed to churn out 1.9 million of them. The Grand @Hyatt nearing completion in Jakarta pictured next to the Selamat Datang Monument. Look carefully and you'll see two human ropes holding onto the contents of the yellow ute at the left of the photo.
This statue designed by Edhi Sunarso was constructed in the 1960s for the Asian Games IV.

What A Shambles.
Another favorite word I like the sound of. It was used by my mum a fair bit when I was a teenager ... "Clean your room up, it's a shambles!" I wasn't disappointed by the real thing when I visited the Shambles in York. The word "shambles" originally means open-air slaughter house or a meat market ... and on reflection it's the perfect description of any teenager's bedroom.

Australia isn't renowned for having an over abundance of abandoned places however Glen Davis situated north of Lithgow in #newsouthwales is a great place to visit if you like photography involving incredible landscapes and #abandoned #buildings. This #35mmfilm photo taken in 1985 as the #afternoon sun started to bring magic to this abandoned oil shale #refinery founded in 1938. The township was abandoned in 1952 producing oil from shale was to costly.

When I was staying at the YHA Lodge on Lake Alta (Whistler, BC) this clever Border came up with a substitute tennis ball. His master was annoyed by the constant barking to play, so the master hid all his tennis balls upstairs.
No problem, thinks the Border ... I'll just find a nice round #smooth #rock to carry around, and then ask the guests to play with me instead.

A part of every family driving holiday up the east coast of #australia would not be complete without stopping into #timbertown #heritage park at #wauchope in #newsouthwales .
This photo taken in 1980 when Timbertown had only been open for four years. In December this year they will celebrate 40 years of serving the people with a glimpse of Australian #history. The Timbertown website states that over 2 million people have visited from all over Australia and the world. Even after 36 years on visiting and seeing this bullock train display complete with cattle dog, stock whip and #bullock driver its left a lasting #journaling memory under my family #journal code of #trave .

Petaling Street - Kuala Lumpur.
I visited and worked in Kuala Lumpur in August 1988 and a must do is to visit the markets on #petalingstreet . Times have changed and this #progresspic shows an uncovered market venue with #taxis and #pedestrians exposed to the elements. In 2003 #petalingstreetkualalumpur went through a major transformation. A steel and iron roof now covers the complete street and it is dubbed the #greendragon . This was taken near no 26 Jalan Petaling at Toong Hsing Loong Emporium.

Historic #Gastown in Vancouver reminded me of Sydney's historic Rocks area.
Gastown is named after Jack Deighton a Yorkshire seaman who opened the first pub in the 1860s. Its role as a commercial hub was sealed when the Canadian Pacific Railway termination was established in the 1880s.

When I took this photo on Bellville Street Victoria Canada, in September 1987, I didn't realise what an iconic hotel I was capturing on the left hand side of the road. In some respects I'm glad that I took this photo in ignorance to knowing this was a Victorian landmark. The chateau-style hotel is balanced against the red buses, lamp posts, flowers and pedestrians enjoying the magnificent day. The Hotel has a rich history commencing from its opening in 1908 as a passenger hotel for the Canadian Pacific's transport network. Two years after this #35mmfilm was taken the Empress had the royal treatment with 45 million dollar refit. Just to add to its #iconic character it also has a number of ghosts.
