I saw this duck (or is it a goose) this afternoon at Aker River. I have never seen anything like it here or anywhere else for that matter...
It looked like its feathers were soiled with something. The feathers seemed kind of "ratty" and "scraggly," and the bird was spending a lot of time preening, shaking its tail, and flapping its wings. It also seemed quite thin, and it was very shy except that it did not want to get into the water when I got too close. It would rather walk in the opposite direction, but it didn't really make any real effort to move too much...
Does anyone know what this is? Some kind of hybrid perhaps? Or a domestic duck/goose that escaped?
