I took a walk in the woods to clear my mind. There was a light that broke through the mist and gave me solutions...
How many people can remember that red plastic container of bubble solution with the stick inside that you can blow through to make bubbles? This is thought I had when I rested my tripod on Cannon Beach on the Oregon Coast.
The weight of the sky and all of its fabulous sunset glory was a perfect way to cap off an incredible day in the Pacific Northwest of the USA.

CP empty grain train no.331 is on the pull out of Toronto after making a two car setoff as well as fuelling up the engines and swapping crews. Apparently the leader here had multiple defects reported, one of which being a broken bell button which was being held together by a band-aid. Paraphrasing, but the conversation on the scanner went something along the lines of this:
Crew: "so you want us to just go ahead when there's literally a band-aid holding this button in place? It's kind of disgusting"
West Tower: "That is correct, I'm sure the band-aid is there specifically to hold that button in place, not like it came off someone, the planner said to just go ahead and leave because he's unable to fix it here on the spot".
Never a dull moment around these parts.
Amsterdam - Admiralengracht / Van Kinsbergenstraat.
Residential block, built in 1926 to a design by Bureau Gulden and Geldmaker.
This block does have an unmistakable "Amsterdam School" appearance, especially due to the attractive corner solution.
Architects Gulden and Geldmaker excel in usually more sober designs, but they could indeed come up with expressive designs (amsterdamse-school.nl).
The Amsterdam School is a style of architecture that arose from 1910 through about 1930 in the Netherlands. The Amsterdam School movement is part of international Expressionist architecture, sometimes linked to German Brick Expressionism (Wp).
Normally I chase this ginger Tom away but as he is doing a fine job of keeping the birds off my cherry tree, I will give him a free pass until August 🤔😉

Saturday Self Challenge: Kubus

Saturday Self Challenge: Cube
A cube is a rare shape in everyday life, because it is not a practical shape. Boxes, books, drawers, bricks, etc., etc., are all rectangular objects which have mostly two or sometimes even four equal sides, but not in the shape of a cube. So the solution was in a die, the cube that most people are familiar with.
To make the cube shapes stand out, I thought of contrasting shapes namely two of the same but different in size scales combined with diagonal stripes. Furthermore, I made the composition square, because a square is one side of a cube.
To make the cube shapes stand out, I chose this one and not the one from above.

My storage solution, 'cause I don't have a lot of space and this was as compact as I could figure out.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year is an important platform from which to tell impactful stories about the planetary emergency. Through photography we have the power to move hearts and minds to create a community of advocates for nature. Our current initiatives, including our new WPY Horizons Series, celebrate contemporary photographers of nationalities currently underrepresented in the Competition, as well as girls, women and nonbinary photographers. We want to strengthen this legacy by nurturing the next generation of young photographers, inspiring and empowering them to tell their own stories about wildlife and conservation in their local areas.
This year we launched our new project Young Minds for a Compassionate World, a new collaboration between us and the Victoria Memorial Hall in India funded by the British Council as part of India/UK Together, A Season of Culture. Together, we delivered a weeklong workshop in Kolkata for 38 young people from 18 local schools and universities. The locally rooted photography, storytelling and conservation masterclasses provided opportunities for budding photographers to learn technical tips and industry knowledge from world-leading mentors, naturalists and WPY alumni, including Nayan Khanolkar, Ashwika Kapur, Shekar Dattatri, Dhritiman Mukherjee and Ripan Biswas.
The participants then put their skills to the test by producing exciting, new photographs that tell important stories about local nature. Their photographs will be displayed at an exhibition at the Victoria Memorial Hall from 16 November 2022. The project will then conclude with a series of online events, available on our YouTube channel, that explore the conversations taking place globally on the role of nature photography in finding solutions to the planetary emergency.

Industar 69 28/2.8 mounted on my trusty nex5n. I had to grind down the Fotga M39 to nex adapter to get it to focus to infinity. I have a better solution coming from China. I removed all the internal lens focus stops, so it can also focus very close. But you have to take care to not unscrew the lens completely out of the barrel. I think this is one of the most compact APS-C rigs you can find.
In fact, this is one of my older MOCs that I have built over two years ago. Some of you probably already know it from my Brickshelf gallery or Brothers-Brick. I have only reviewed some of the photos and they are now displayed in a slightly higher resolution.
For everyone who does not know it yet: this MOC is my favorite mecha from the Classic BattleTech series...in fact it is a Robotech design, but in the beginning it was also used for Battletech until it became "unseen"...whatever...I love this 75 ton steel monster...even if it is made of plastic....
