A lot of fun

Somebody pointed out that I have not done an adequate job explaining what a Lora is. Technically it is sofware used to finetune the AI model. Finetuning means you teach the model how you want images to look when generated by showing it images you have created and associating each image with a carefully crafted caption. For example I will show the AI what I mean when I ask for an image of a 17th century middling sort cottage. I call the images I use to teach the AI "training images." The "Lora" trains on each image, using my captions as a guide to what words to associate with the image.

In the attached training image, I am teaching the AI program what a 17th century middling sort of village looks like. I am teaching it what kind of clothes the middling sort wears. I am showing it what the landscape looks like. And so on.

The AI model already understands what a 17th century English middling sort of cottage looks like. But it gets details wrong, and gets the perspective wrong, has trouble showing people at a distance and so on. So I finetune it by showing how I want these structures and objects rendered.

I am currently producing a library of training images that describes the part of the 17th century world I want to visualize. Note that I said "the part of the 17th century world" meaning the specific place, time, events and activities I want to include in my story. I am in effect creating a world. Then I can use the Lora to generate new images that are faithful to the world I have created.

My location is Stogumber, Somerset, England and my time period is the 1630s and 1640s. I will develop specialized Loras for different aspects of this world. In the case of the specialized Lora trained on the attached image, the focus is on the buildings and landscape, the people are secondary. Placeholders. I will have at least one other Lora devoted to clothing. I can run both Loras at the same time and give each Lora a different weight, meaning how much it influences the final image.

I used Loras to produce the attached image. It defined how the clothes will look. It defined how the overall scene looks. I have a specialized Lora that helps me implement the tenebrism style appropriate to this period. "Tenebrism" is a type of lighting attributed to Caravaggio where there is a strong contrast between the light and dark areas of the image.

My current training images are a mix of computer generated images, images where I have done a lot of digital painting and processing and photographs of real people wearing costumes or real landscapes that I have edited. But in future Lora generations the real photographs will be abandoned entirely in favour of images that I have crafted using all my different tools. What does that mean? It will mean that the world my Loras generate will have my style of painting embedded in it.

Does it sound like I have become the director of a movie calling to my palette a host of helpers, like an entire wardrobe department and lighting crew and art director? Yes, exactly, except I am still holding the camera, creating and adjusting the clothing, manipulating the lighting etc. I just have a lot of assistants embodied in the AI and constrained by Loras. Loras are my instructions to the AI.

Yes, another M33! Inevitable at this time of year. 96% Moon!!

This was my first clear night in weeks but of course it coincided with a pretty much full Moon. Back in the year I bought an Altair Astro Tri-Band OSC filter which I had not had occasion to use so thought I'd give it a go. I couldn't find many examples taken with this filter so it was an unknown quantity. Quite pleased with the result.

A bit noisy and there were severe 'light pollution' gradients which required processing persistence to eradicate. APP's light pollution removal tool was excellent but not 100% so the remainder was removed manually in Affinity Photo. I thought processing would be quite involved but APP has a setting for this filter type which made it very straight forward.

Nice to know that I can now make use of those clear but Moon filled nights!!

This is a look in black and white at an Epiphyllum flower that was white with yellow tips. I converted the image to black and white using Nik Sofware's Silver Efex Pro 2.

I lit the flower with a manual Yongnuo flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box hand held at camera left. The flash and camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. For each image in the set, and there are over 1400 of them, I describe how I set up the lighting for that particular shot. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/

Other black and white images that I've attempted can be seen in my Black And White Album.

These are the buds (some partially open) of an Asiatic Lily plant. I converted the image to black and white using Nik Sofware's Silver Efex Pro 2 software.

Lighting stuff: Lit with a single Yongnuo manual flash in a 24 inch gridded soft box at camera left and just out of the frame. Fill light is from a hand held mirror at camera right. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set that has over 1300 images in it. In the description for each image, I describe the lighting setup that I used. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/

I used this image as an excuse to play with this newly free (very nice!) Google NIK sofware. For this I used the Silver Effects and RAW sharpening programs... With my PS CS4 they were easy enough to use and worked nicely... but I'm not sure that I like using them any better than the RAW development program I usually use, LightZone.

Probably a once-proud fishing vessel, this name-sake boat of the area now lies decaying upon a sand bar in Tomales Bay.

Over the years, many images of this boat have been posted on Flickr, so it's not an unusual find. I posted the original of this one quite some time ago, but this time I applied a painting effect using Topaz' Impressions sofware (reccommended by Barry S.) and changed to sky to include a rainbow using Photoshop's Sky Replacement tool.

Enhanced with Nik Sofware Color Efex Pro.

Revisting this www.flickr.com/photos/boblyp/2281904952/, taking the original photos and reprocessing them through new HDR sofware, joining two HDR images through new panorama software. Previously with www.flickr.com/photos/boblyp/2281904952/ I was a bit scared of the amount of red/orange in the picture. However, this is much closer to the conditions at the time and the new HDR software allows me to make a little more of the huddle of people at the top of the slope on this most extraordinary of sunset evenings

One of my favorite sunrise shots taken at the Bay Bridge.

Lake Estes, Estes Park Colorado. Taken when the lake was drained in 2012, edited recently using Topaz Textures. The original photo was blah. If I remember correctly, this tree was gone last time I was there in 2015. This POV only could have been taken from the lake, via boat, or like I mentioned when the lake was drained. Walked past this little tree about a thousand times.

I miss you Lake Estes...sniff sniff.

This was the surprise of the series. I had made my panorama (previous in the photostream) my desktop wallpaper. The sofware compressed the pano into a typical 3 by 4 ratio shot. What resulted was an increase in information in the "squished" space. Squished is a technical term, by the way. =^) Try it large, there are some interesting rain forms at the bottoms of the clouds.

No, it didn't actually LOOK like this: 1st, it's compressed horizontally. 2nd, I modified the levels (especially light and dark areas) to bring out the color. If you look at the more ORANGE sunset, that's more like it really looked. Even then, I had my camera on the CHROMA setting, which gives a more saturated tone to the photo.

** HDRs from RAW **

This is not really an HDR. It was made from a single RAW photo from which three jpegs with different exposures were generated by using ufRaw. Then HDR sofware was used, to merge the jpegs into a single one, and the result tone mapped. This can not really be called an HDR as the Raw file is already my HDR image, and the treatment made does not add any additional information. For me it is just a convenient way of manipulating the images, and this could have been done directly with any good raw processing software.

I am starting to make dark hdr pic, coz there is no sunlight !!

One pic, with arpenture sofware I produced 3 pics -2 IL, 0 IL, +2 IL, and I put all in the photomatix software and I tonemapped.

I always begun by choosing a gamma value, and I adjusted the other parameters.. each time I made something news..

Just another random shot when I was walking. Hope you like it!

Enjoy!

I like that I live where the public transportation is called BART - Bay Area Rapid Transit. Strange though, I just call it the "train".

I took this on the way to the airport. It was on the pano mode and with that, you are to move the camera/phone slowly to capture the long photo. When I did this, the train was moving and I was moving in another train. It gave a cool effect, but I like it better with the blue tones.

Happy Sliders Sunday

This is part of my art coursework at school. - for those on twitter wondering what the rain machine was for :) Unortunately, I haven't been able to edit it at all because I don't have any video editing sotware for my linux, and the stuff I downloaded didn't work. So this is straight off the camera (the 5d Video quality is amazing) and unedited yet, but hopefully if i can find some sofware i'll be able to post the final video.

How to make a rain machine tutorial will be posted on our blog!

ALSO some big news, me and my friend Ali who lent me his 5D are going to team up and start shooting weddings together in order for me to raise some money for America time this July! We're sooo excited, and are doing a mock-wedding shoot next week to get some practice in and some portfolio pictures for the website we are making!

If anyone has any tips on weddings, from pricing to composition, i would love to hear them!!!

the song is from youtube's "copyright free" music audioswap library - its called "waves crash" by "jamie k" :)

Yes, this is a high dynamic range image - and yes, I know some who view this have a real distaste for the process.

However I took several single frames of this scene and none could capture the nuances of light and color present at the moment....only when I blended three images with Photomatix sofware was I able to bring out the actual colors that my naked eye saw when I was holding the camera.

Like all HDR imagery, this is better when viewed at the larger sizes....

---------------------------

Pessoal estou em Recife até o final da semana que vem, aproveitando um pouco a companhia do meu amor e matando bastante a saudade XD

Matthew Cooper and I (no relation) have been doing this Disney photography thing since 2010, except on different coasts, and in different Parks. He and I were both into HDR images in Disney Parks way early on. I always thought he and I were of equal quality yet each of us has slightly different looks...From my point of view, Matt's work is clean and crisp and technically superb with those trademark stars. I tend to like details and lightplay and texture, particularly on pathways, and we both enjoy creative compositions...

I started the HDR journey by reading books and watching videos, trying different HDR sofware methods and eventually settling on mixing and masking layers and exposures manually as needed. Lately, luminosity masks have become a big part of my routine.

Having recently joined the IDP team of admins, I have enjoyed getting to know everyone and sharing my Disneyland photography experiences with them. Matthew and Sean recently made it out here to Disneyland on separate trips, and I was able to meet up briefly with them both for a couple hours in the Parks.

Matthew and I thought it would be nifty if we could shoot and process similar shots side by side. This is the first...the classic front view of Sleeping Beauty Castle. For reference, my Canon 5DIII is mounted on a fully extended tripod. Mathew's Nikon 810 is mounted on a collapsed tripod directly below mine.

For my image, I already knew from experience that my camera was not as light sensitive as the 810 and I would probably need more exposures and higher ISO for my final image. I ended up shooting 5 base exposures at ISO 200, f/9, with a 14mm Rokinon manual lens. I shot some additional images at ISO 400 and ISO 800 of the sky and to use for masking out various people as they gathered in front of the castle. I used a total of 8 images to make the final product, merged by manually masking them together and some liminosity masking. It should be noted that photos of this particular castle are a challenge to edit due to the extremely hot and colorful lighting, and the usually overcast skies that can be terribly affected by light pollution in the urban environment that Disneyland occupies....
