I'm In Town was created in MEDL Mobile’s App Incubator.
The idea was submitted by Jared Rubin of Long Beach, a traveling salesman who wanted a way to let all of his customers and friends know when he arrived in a new place.
At the touch of a button, the app will scan your entire address list to find anyone living within a radius of your current location. You can also use the app to find people in another location. Once you build your contact list, the app will send an email or an SMS message to everyone at once, letting them know that you are in town (or coming to town) and how to get in touch with you.
Now you’ll never come home from a trip and say to yourself, “I can’t believe I forgot to call so-and-so!”
The app uses addresses found in your contact list. So the person must have an address attached to their name in order to be found.
We are proud to call I’m In Town a Shiny MEDL Object.
KK and my CSci 3601 (Software Design and Development) class took a field trip up to the West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) Horticulture Gardens to see where their project would actually be used. Steve Poppe did most of the tour guiding, with assistance from Esther Jordan.
