Some birds are hard to catch. I once described the effort it took me to photograph a little grebe (flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/51853338632/in/dateposted/). The same can be said about the smew.

I often have seen them, although they are not very common, but when they see me they often flee away ASAP.

Here I just caught him in time, because I took this image from a bird observatory hut, but he already had heard me stumbling in (clumsy me), so he was on his way to the exit.

It means I still have to wait for the perfect shot, but I like the setting. To exaggerate it a bit, I have got away with the light blue reflections from the sky on the water, and so make it more explicit.

Merry Xmas!

The common snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis) is a bulbous plant from the daffodil family (Amaryllidaceae).[1] The plant originates from Southern Europe and has been locally established in the Low Countries since the eighteenth century, originally mainly as a stinsen plant. It is widely planted and naturalizes easily.

The genus name Galanthus is a compound of Ancient Greek γάλα, gala (milk) and ἄνθος, anthos (flower), nivalis meaning: growing in or near the snow.

This is a serene paradise where the hardness of mountains and the softness of water complete each other.

This is an adaptable system where winter snow and spring vegetation coexist.

This is an inclusive environment where blue, white, green and brown harmonize.

This is a resilient universe where no ripples can disturb its tranquility.

On the cold and snowy morning of December 5th 2020, I was somewhat lost on exploration of Pan Am territory in and around Gardner. After many long minutes of freezing my fingers off at Parker Street, this eastbound finally popped around the bend as snowfall started to step up as well. The weather gave the otherwise bland shot of MEC 7595 quite the holiday spirit!
