A final comfort that is small, but not cold: The heart is the only broken instrument that works. ~T.E. Kalem

The first real heavy snowfall of the year I headed off to Edale in the Peak District to do a circular walk and see what shots could be picked up, absolutely freezing conditions with waist high snow drifts in parts of the walk, this was the scene looking towards Edale from half way up Mam Tor, the valley taking on a whole new appearance with basic black and white contrast opposed to the more usual colourful greens and reds, the dark lines of the trees and stone walls breaking up an otherwise all white scene, a nightmare to expose for having to shoot well over the camera's recommendations due to the brightness of the snow throughout the frame.

Brampton Cumbria Snow March 2018

Beginning late February early March 2018, Brampton Cumbria was affected by a cold wave, dubbed the Beast from the East by the media. It brought widespread unseasonably low temperatures and heavy snowfall to large areas of the UK.

A fantastic day out with Mike Tonge where we hiked up Lingmell Beck in the first snow / ice of the Winter season, hardly another soul about.

This was one of the first images I shot of the falls under Lingmell, we had quite some time here exploring the area and there were allsorts of compositions available and we shot many, this is definitely a spot I will return to again.

As is traditional on these trips I managed to slip on some ice and went flying into a heap, thankfully nothing broken on me or camera equipment just a few bruises but more than worth it for the images we got and a top day out :-)

I'll be uploading more images from this trip to my website, keep checking back.

A variant on a photo I posted a year ago, so please forgive me. However the exposure is different on this and I quite like the different look.

Just stop for a second.... and image the possibilities of this one particular snowflake landing on my hand.... the probability of it, the chance that this one particular snowflake would be the one to land here.

We've had no gas supply for 2 days now, and last night half the village lost it's electricty too. Water in the pipes apparently. People actually had water squirting out of their gas cookers and fires! Wherever you go in the village there's a guy in a yellow jacket digging a hole, it's bloody freezing too. Heaters and cookers have been handed out by National Grid who have been really professional throughout. Temporary generators are being installed currently to try to get the electricity back on. I guess inevitably lots of homes will require new meters, cookers and boilers etc.

An RAF Chinook helicopter flies food and supplies to areas in Cumbria cut off by snow for five days.

The aircraft, carrying Royal Marines, Police, and Mountain Rescue took off from Carlisle Airport and flew to aid snowed in communities around the Alston area.

Supplies on board included food, fuel, medicines and electrical appliances and came as some residents said they were "burning furniture" to keep warm

Another first in my garden, a beautiful looking fieldfare, I often see these out and about. I have never spotted one in my garden before. It must be due to the very cold weather and the still lying snow........but what a bully he is, the poor blackbirds and thrushes don't stand a chance, he chases' them right out of the garden, he doesn't seen to worry about the smaller birds.

Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas - we had a great day, lovely to see Jack and Aaron opening their presents.
