HSoS!

A teasel flower looking rather alien and menacing - going a bit strange for the Smile on Saturday theme 'Small Part Sharp'.

GROUP: SMILE ON SATURDAY

This was taken from the local nursery. It's only about the size of a nickel. Unfortunately, I forgot to look what it's called.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND, EVERYONE!

A baby fell out of it's nest : ( Mom and Dad were worried. Me too.

… and yet it‘s not. This tiny (around 3 mm in diameter) closed flower - apparently named 'herb Robert' in English - really looks like that up close. I found that quite fascinating to be honest and have never seen that specific textured look on a flower petal. I‘m sure if it hadn‘t been many million years earlier with its creation of that structure, we might have already sued it for copying our ingenious fabrics.

My attempt at the "Smile on Saturday" theme "small part sharp".

Smile on Saturday theme - Small part sharp

Selective focus on one bud on my Winter Gladioli which are providing much needed colour in the garden at the moment.

Spare a thought for Queensland again facing major flooding for the 3rd time this year. And at such a late stage in the year!

I'll be off for a couple of days so will hopefully be able to comment & respond to comments next week.

Smile on Saturday -"small part sharp" - knotty focus

Smile on Saturday - small tack sharp

This theme was a particularly tricky one to do with my cellphone. (I am in the 17th month of a 6 month self-challenge to do as much as I can with the iPhone's camera.) Sure do miss using my dear little canon870 which handles these admirably but really needs to go to its camera doctor.

With the iPhone camera, I probably took well over 50 shots of different small close-up things!! I could get a focus in the middle ground but I wanted more and better. Wanted to get foreground focus and background blur which on this one turned out to be, not surprisingly, the blue ribbon that the opaque gauzy one was paired with. I’ll post a couple of my “almost but not quite” possibilities soon. There are 9 other possibilities in my photostream, besides this one. .....Thank you to Renee who makes me think I can handle these challenges with a cellphone camera!!

A picture of a Large Red Damselfly where only a small part of the image is sharp - for the Smile On Saturday challenge "Small Part Sharp"!

The Large Red Damselfly is a medium-sized damselfly that lives around the edges of ponds, lakes, ditches and canals, and can also be found away from breeding sites in grassland and woodland. It is the earliest damselfly to emerge in the UK, and is on the wing from the end of April through to August. It is a regular visitor to gardens.
