Calceolaria is a genus of plants in the Calceolariaceae family, sometimes classified in Scrophulariaceae by some authors. This genus consists of about 388 species of shrubs, lianas and herbs, and the geographical range extends from Patagonia to central Mexico, with its distribution centre in Andean region.
Calceolaria species have usually yellow or orange flowers, which can have red or purple spots. The Calceolaria Herbeohybrida group, also called C. herbeohybrida Voss, is a group of ornamental hybrids known only in cultivation, called florists slipperwort.

The Boho Culture Fair 2016:
While hiking the Dunes trail at Neys Provincial Park I came across these beautiful flowers. My first thought was these are Lady Slippers but then I thought they don't grow here. When I got home I looked them up and found they are Lady Slippers, also known as Moccasin Flower.
I have never seen a Lady Slipper in person. They are so pretty and would have loved to stay longer to photograph them however I forgot my bug spray and the bugs were attacking.

Paphiopedilum armeniacum, a species of flowering plant in the family Orchidaceae known commonly as the apricot orange paphiopedilum and golden slipper orchid. It is endemic to an isolated area of China. While it is cultivated, the wild plants are in decline because of habitat loss and poaching for the horticulture trade.

It was a good year for the Southern lady's slipper (Cypripedium kentuckiense) in East Texas. Many populations that typically bloom sporadically or in small numbers were in full display. This particular population typically has five blooms or fewer, and I have visited during years when it did not bloom at all. This year, however, twelve of these spectacular slippers revealed themselves. Perhaps this Cypripedium super bloom was fueled by late cold snaps and fortuitously timed precipitation. This site was also burned in late winter, which may have helped spur the mass bloom. The increase in flowering activity lead to the rediscovery of numerous populations that had not been visited in years, and the discovery of multiple new populations by dedicated botanists that spent countless hours scouring the woods.

Crochet slipper for my daughter from a vintage pattern in book "The great Granny crochet book".
Very pretty and my daughter loves it, but I don't like the fact it's made in 2 pieces.
Added the pink edgings and joined sole to the top piece with pink yarn and on the outside.

Fairy Slipper Orchid, Calypso bulbosa var. occidentalis. A delightful little orchid that grows in the thick, mossy humus of redwood and doug fir forests. Reaches its southern limit in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where only a handful of small populations are known.
I was delighted to find this lovely Lady's Slipper at Welsh Mountain Preserve last week. It was the only one I saw.
