...silver surfing on planetary rings...
#MacroMondays
#Sphere
For lack-of-time reasons, I once again stayed in my comfort zone for our theme "Sphere" and picked beads I knew would look nice in a macro setting. Still, I wanted to make them look a little more interesting than just with a clear reflection (like last time, please see the first comment).
So at some point, I started playing around with my latest improvised reflector find, the lid of a "Vintersaga Ginger Thins" box (I wonder where the tin itself is; certainly not eaten like the delicious cookies).
I held the lid, silver-coloured inside up, behind the small scene (from the right; lights used: flat natural light photo lamp from above, LED flashlight placed at an angle from the left behind the beads; and two warm light LEDs from the left and right, slightly from below). What I got was, at first, a diagonally split background of silver and black, which looked nice. But when I kept moving the lid, I also got this wavy reflection that I thought looked even nicer.
The little scene reminded me of four moons, "meeting" for a special constellation on the rings of their mother star, off on a surfing spree.
I used in-camera focus stacking (15 images max.), but combined the single photos in Helicon Focus (method B, R21, S4).
HMM, Everyone! I will catch up with you later!

🎸🎵 If everybody had a shiny surfboard
Made of cosmic chrome,
We’d zip right past the Milky Way
And leave our earthly home!
You’d see 'em ridin' past Galactus,
Soarin' through the night,
A bunch of cosmic surfers
Gleamin' silver-bright! 🎶
🎸🎵 Silver Surfin’!
(Silver Surfin'!)
Cruisin’ through the stars!
Silver Surfin’!
(Silver Surfin'!)
Sayin' hi to Mars!
Yeah, everybody’s shining in the solar flare,
Catchin' cosmic waves without a single care! 🎶
🎸🎵 Well, Norrin Radd from Zenn-La
Taught us how to ride,
He waxed his board with star-dust
And took us on a slide!
Forget the waves at Malibu,
We’re headin' for a quasar,
Ridin' through a supernova
Gleamin' like a star! 🎶
🎸🎵 Silver Surfin’!
(Silver Surfin'!)
Dodgin' asteroid belts!
Silver Surfin’!
(Silver Surfin'!)
Watch the nebula melt!
Yeah, everybody’s shreddin' through the deep dark space,
With the Herald of Galactus at a record pace! 🎶
🎸🎵 The Fantastic Four are wave-watchin' down below,
Seein' Norrin ride the solar wind overflow!
Cowabunga cosmic, hear the space-burst roar,
We ain't ever comin' back to shore! 🎶
🎸🎵 Silver Surfin’!
(Silver Surfin'!)
Cruisin’ through the stars!
Silver Surfin’!
(Silver Surfin'!)
Sayin' hi to Mars!
Yeah, everybody’s shining in the solar flare,
Catchin' cosmic waves without a single care! 🎶
🎸🎵 Silver Surfin'!
Watch out for the black hole!
Silver Surfin'!
Got that Power Cosmic soul!
Yeah, Silver Surfin'! 🎶

Fantastic Four / Iron Man
Silver Surfer
1995, Toy Biz
This was a Walmart exclusive two pack featuring the Silver Surfer and The Mandarin.
The release was part of a special crossover line pairing one Fantastic Four character with one Iron Man character (such as Dr. Doom vs. Iron Man or The Thing vs. War Machine).
The figures came bundled with a bonus Fantastic Four collector pin alongside character-specific accessories and features.
The Surfer came with a ring attachment for the bottom of the surfboard so that you could attach the board and figure to your finger.
The Mandarin came with a removable helmet and a battery-op light feature to make his hands/rings glow.
Norrin has appeared in BP 2018 Day 100!

“Tu mano roza en vano mi pecho que se arroba;
Pedías el Ocaso; ya desciende, aquí llega;
y siempre: ¡vamos! A ignotos derroteros”...
Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867)

My friends and I woke up Saturday morning to find the central coast absolutely going off. All day offshores and pumping combo swell. Spitting tubes up and down the beach. I snapped this frame around 3pm, when the backlit conditions made the ocean turn silver.

I wanted to give the feeling of the lonely Silver Surfer….floating….in the quiet darkness of space, ever observant.
Well, it’s just glitter really but it looks the part. I knew to be careful with that glitter stuff, we all know how it sticks to everything. With some precautions not much got away, which was nice.
The minifig is a custom I bought many, many years ago.
I wanted to give the feeling of the lonely Silver Surfer….floating….in the quiet darkness of space, ever observant.
How could I build the Fantastic Four without also building a few of their pals and enemies?! So here's eight more figures for you all to chew on and enjoy!
Oh, and here's a list of the custom parts I used so I don't have to answer redundant questions in the comments all afternoon: Doom’s Gun (Brickarms/EclipsGrafx), Silver Surfer Fig (by BigKidBrix), and Namor’s lil feet wings (BrickWarriors). Everything else is Official Lego!
Also Super-Skrull was basically the exact same figure that HMD BrickCustoms designed so yeah (I don’t wanna get sued by the Lego Fan Community if I didn’t say that) :P
Also also I built a lot of these figs from memory and apparently Grey Gargoyle has a cape and I completely forgot sooooo.... whoops!
...Too late to fix it now!

I recently (months ago) picked up some more bootleg figs and was surprised to find that this Galactus knock-off wasn’t completely terrible, so naturally I had to make some posts with him and the rest of the gang! ;)
The Chrysler was inspired by a build by Tobias Brzitwa from here on Flickr, and The Baxter was inspired by a micro-scale “digital build” from the 2013 Lego Marvel Video Game!

How on earth do you take a picture of a guy who's all chrome? Flash or no flash? I tried both, and this one with the flash looked a little better.
I sure am glad he had his right leg up and his left leg with the knee down. If he had his legs switched, I don't think they would've allowed this in the Children's Museum.
Here's a throwback because I gotta feed the algorithm or whatever
This one was inspired by some of Keith Yip’s work from his Instagram, focusing heavily on stark lighting, strong angles, simplicity in the overall image composition... all accompanied with a strong 16:9 crop. He generally (to my knowledge) uses strictly Apple iPhone cameras for his work, where as you all know, I primarily shoot with Nikon, but hey, the translation of formats was fun to tackle! :P If you know his work I hope you can see his style that I was going for, if not you can find him here: @castleinthepool :)

Here’s a bonus Silver Surfer shot from the Galactus photoshoot, because it was too good not share!

I took this photo while visiting Turkey in 2011. The Manavgat Waterfalls a really beautiful natural place to visit. (Silversurfers picture of the day 31 Jan 2014).

So I recently picked up BigKidBrix Silver Surfer fig and took a little mini photoshoot with him! I even took the time to write up a lengthy review of him and how he stands up to my scrutinizing standards with custom figs, and I gotta say he’s not too shabby! :)
If you want more details than just “He’s not too shabby” or want to know how I edited this photograph, head over to my Patreon page and read all about it! :)
Speaking of Patreon, I wanted to give a quick shout out to my newest Pateon, the one and only Superior_Idiot here on flickr! He's got a neat series of story posts ft. some cool re-imagined Batman and Superman figs that you should go check out! Like seriously that Superman fig with the MM Legs is dope!
Anyway, thanks for your support dude! :)
