Silent Disco at Lincoln Center. Part of the Summer For The City programming.

Silent Disco participants wear headphones to hear the music. If you look closely at the boy and the woman in the lower right corner you can see the headphone's glow.

When I first moved to my home on a canal in Amsterdam, I realized living here meant sharing the canal with noisy boat traffic. It's not all bad. Most boaters are just out for a nice ride with friends and family, and their noise fades as they come and go. Every now and then, a boat would pass blaring loud bumpy DJ sets and carrying an equally loud load of passengers clubbing their way around the city. Citizen complained and action was taken. Boaters can be fined if their music is considered too loud.

This silent disco boat is a solution to the enforcement of noise restrictions.

The Silent Disco tent at the Dutch Festival. Excellent idea, this - you can speak to people without shouting, dancers can listen to different tunes, and it's great to see people getting down without knowing what they're listening to :-)

Silent discos are a quite common at the Edinburgh Fringe, but are a hazard to traffic as those taking part are oblivious to where they are. I think they are coming under greater restrictions, this one was in a pedestrianised area.
