On Sunday we had the privilege of watching 3 - possibly 4 - Great Grey Owls hunting on a stretch of road not far from town. It's always a thrill to be in the presence of these huge, beautiful birds but this experience was extra special as we'd never heard their call before or watched them interact with other owls, flying after each other into the trees.
Most of the nature trails merge before returning to the nature center at Stony Creek Metropark, and pass through this quiet woodland.
Yesterday I was again at my favorite place on the Moselle because I expected the sunrise, good light and a little mist. Everything was fulfilled only when the ascending fog slightly concealed the sun, creating a mystical mood.

Wishing all my Flickr friends a wonderful, magical holiday season! Some creative help from Wombo, but the scene is based on a photo I took of a beautiful Missouri church….
If there comes a time to raise anchor from time, one day more,
A ship will set out from this harbor toward an unknown shore.
It makes way silently, as though it held no living soul;
At that unrocking parting no hand waves as the lines unroll.
Those watching from the wharf are all aching from this journey;
Their eyes sting from holding the black horizon so firmly.
Wretched hearts! What last ship leaving from the homeland is this?
And what deep mourning for a life spent in exile is this?
The loved and the lowing will wait in vain in the world here;
They do not know the belowed will never reappear.
Each of the many who are going are happy they could spend,
A number of years here; the passengers never descend.
Yahya Kemal Beyatlı ( 1884 - 1958 )
All was silent as before -
All silent save the dripping rain.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Just one of those days, y'all! I'll try to catch up with everyone tonight when I get a few moments to myself.
" I want to hold the hand inside you
I want to take a breath that's true
I look to you and I see nothing
I look to you to see the truth
You live your life
You go in shadows
You'll come apart and you'll go blind
Some kind of light into your darkness
Colors your eyes with what's not there.
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
A stranger's light comes on slowly
A stranger's heart without a home
You put your hands into your head
And then smiles cover your heart .. "

Even though the magic of birds singing and flowers blooming and green returning is still happening this spring, somehow this celebration of nature seems muffled this year by the pall of pandemic. I still admire the beauty of spring, but my heart is going out to all those who are suffering - may Heaven help us all ...
"We stand now where two roads diverge. but unlike the roads in Robert Frost's familiar poem, they are not equally fair. The road we have long been traveling is deceptively easy, a smooth superhighway on which we progress with great ease, but at its end lies disaster. The other fork of the road - the one less traveled by - offers our last, our only chance to reach a destination that assures the preservation of the earth."
