Laukvik, Lofoten. 172 extremely cold seconds of exposure. The wind was coming in from the sea, freezing the water on the rocks in the foreground. I hope you like the image, thank you very much for viewing.
Petra is a most talented artist deep in her heart and soul . Her inner beauty comes out in all forms of visual art, from painting to photography. Her eternally searching eye captures beauty in all subjects , from landscapes to portraits, from archtecture to flowers. She has a special place in my heart as a friend, because she believed in my images even when I didn't and, encouraged me to go on and improve and, these words coming from a most gifted artist as her gave me a magical strenght. Thank you so much Petra for being who you are

View of Las Cabanas Resort on Marimegmeg Beach from the land bridge to Depeldet Island, El Nido, Palawan, Philippines.
This island was our lunch stopover on our last day of island-hopping at Bacuit Bay in El Nido, Palawan. This beach was full of tour boats but we stayed long enough to see all of them leave and have this beach all to ourselves.
Go here for a story on Shimizu Island and other El Nido destinations.
I enjoyed a little rest here in view of Ben Loyal it is a mountain of many peaks. The tide was quite well out and some people were further out than me. I think the darkening clouds give it a sense of mystery and it goes without saying that to climb it would be a serious undertaking. For me I was just happy to enjoy the view.
It was a lovely morning but it is much cooler now the rain is not far away.
Greenan shore is a favorite spot of mine for taking photos, as you may have gathered, but also for large flocks of seabirds and fellow photog Daryll Buchanan who said hello tonight.
It is with a heavy heart I have to announce Northern Shore and some other of my regions are at risk of closure. Northern Shore is one of my newer regions and one that is close to my heart. I took inspiration from The Swedish coast which is also my home in rl. I feel it is one of my most unique regions and something I really want to continue to develop and share with you. The region is currently unsustainable and I am unable to keep it running without more tenants. My last resort is to call for your support. Please do take a look at my available rentals and share with any of your friends who might also enjoy. HERE
I would like to also say a heartfelt thank you to all of you who have supported me in the past and to those who continue to do so. Creating these region is my passion and I would love to continue sharing them with you all.
All regions that cover their costs will continue to remain open and if at any time I can no longer continue all tenants will be notified and refunded.
Only real comments please! No awards, Thank you!
I never expected to get a train powered by a pair of SD40-2s on my first trip to the north shore of Lake Superior in 2019. Here, eastbound ballast train 2GPS-29 hugs the shoreline near Kama Lookout in Ontario.
Herd Groyne Lighthouse, the little red rocket that stands at the mouth of the River Tyne, in the Northeast of England.
My usual captures of this little beauty are during the early hours of the morning at sunrise. This however was captured mid day on a bright but breezy day.
"By the shores of Gitche Gumee,
By the shining Big-Sea Water..."
(Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, "The Song of Hiawatha", 1855)
Longfellow is one of America's most famous poets. Many phrases today are used in common conversation, without knowing that they originated in his poetry. Two famous examples: "... ships that pass in the night...", and "like footprints in the sands of time...".
Gitche Gumee is Lake Superior, the largest fresh-water lake in the world. Like many location names in Michigan, Gitche Gumee is believed to be derived from the Ojibwe (Native American tribe) word that some translate to mean "Great Water". An alternative name is "Kitchi Gami".
The location of this picture is on the Southern shore of Lake Superior, an 8-hour drive from my home in Southeast Michigan. It's the general area that Longfellow described in his famous poem.
I stood on the empty, natural sand beach/shore and looked into the massive, empty sea, feeling alone and very at peace. Bliss.

Just standing here with the remote shutter release staring up into the night sky was a surreal experience. I certainly set off here in the hope I would see the Northern Lights, but the reality is quite mind-blowing. We went on to see a further 3 displays in the next few days which grew with intensity and vibrance, But nothing compares to seeing them for the first time as I did on this night just North West of Tromso, in the Arctic Circle.
