Like Svpply.com, community-driven boutiques like ThisNext are user-curated sites in which products appear based on members’ recommendations. As with sites like ShopStyle, the site itself often doesn’t sell anything -- you click through to an item’s original retailer for that.
The idea is that by following other users and subscribing to particular categories -- say, Home and Garden -- shoppers both discover new products and become part of a community that shares their taste. There’s often a reward for becoming influential; the tastemakers who find the newest products first and come up with witty reviews can receive gift bags of products from the site, event invitations, and of course, discounts.
Some amazing style happened at the @shopstyle office today and it made me happy.
