The Kumbh Mela or Festival of the Sacred Pitcher is an important Hindu pilgrimage celebrated approximately every 6th, 12th and 144 years correlated with the partial or full revolution of the Jupiter. Traditionally the 4 riverside sites where the Fair is held periodically are - Prayagraj or Allahabad (Confluence of the Rivers Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati), Haridwar ( River Ganges), Nashik- Trimbakeshwar (River Godavari) and Ujjain (River Shipra).Hindu Mythology describes the creation of a pot (Kumbh) of Amrit ( Nectar of immortality) after the forces of good (the Gods) and evil (the Demons) churn the Ocean of Creation. The Gods and Demons fight over this pot and in the process the pot splits and the nectar is spilt at the above 4 places where the Kumbh Melas are held.

Maha Kumbh Mela 2013
Triveni Sangam - Prayag, Allahabad UP, INDIA
Kumbh Mela (कुम्भ मेला or कुंभमेळा) or kumbh mela; is a mass Hindu pilgrimage of faith in which Hindus gather to bathe in a sacred river. It is considered to be largest peaceful gathering in the world with over 100 million people visiting during the Maha Kumbh Mela in 2013.
It is held every third year at one of the four places by rotation: Haridwar, Allahabad (Prayaga), Nashik and Ujjain.
Thus the Kumbh Mela is held at each of these four places every twelfth year, Ardha Kumbh Mela is held at only two places, Haridwar and Allahabad, every sixth year. The rivers at these four places are: the Ganges (Ganga) at Haridwar, the confluence (Sangam) of the Ganges and the Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati at Allahabad, the Godawari at Nashik, and the Shipra at Ujjain.
The name Kumbh Mela comes from Hindi, and in the original Sanskrit and other Indian languages it is more often known as Kumbha Mela. Kumbha means a pitcher and Mela means fair in Sanskrit. The pilgrimage is held for about one and a half months at each of these four places where it is believed in Hinduism that drops of nectar fell from the kumbha carried by gods after the sea was churned. The festival is billed as the world’s largest congregation of religious pilgrims. There is no scientific method of ascertaining the number of pilgrims, and the estimates of the number of pilgrims bathing on the most auspicious day may vary; approximately 80 million people attended on 14 February 2013.
Simhastha 2016
The Simhastha Kumbh is an unrivalled celebration in India. The most popular legend regarding the origin of Kumbh Melas is the Samudra Manthan or 'churning of the ocean'. Gods and demons competed ercely in the churning in search of the divine nectar of immortality. During this epic battle to capture the Urn (Kumbh) containing the nectar, drops of the precious liquid fell on four places – Haridwar, Prayag (Allahabad), Nashik and Ujjain. Hence, river Kshipra became the enhancer of life and to celebrate this event since then the grand festival came in vogue. Kumbh Mela, is held once every twelve years at these four places and attracts millions of devotees.
Grand Simhastha, on the Ghats of the glorious Kshipra
The Ujjain Kumbh is celebrated when Jupiter ascends into sun sign Leo's quarter or the Simha constellation of zodiac, which is why it is called 'Simhastha'. The Simhastha is special in Ujjain as it is the seat of divine Mahakal - the Lord of all times. The ritual of bathing in the holy waters of Kshipra begins on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Chaitra (March-April) and continues on various dates until the full moon shows up in the following month of Vaishakha.

The survery seems almost whimsical It seems to be based on factors like corporate offices, land price, job availability, high finance but it certainly forgets basic needs like transportation, workability, parking space, environment sensitivity and all other factors that make a great city out of an ordinary city.
I was more amused than happy but certainly it gives me a reason to cheer in this otherwise concrete city,I live in.
