Can't tell you why I did this in color other than that I thought it looked nicer. Don't really know what the deal was with these two but I think their expressions are great! And they're beautiful of course! Hope you like! :)

After moving this feeding station a couple of years ago, the squirrels haven't been able to access it. However, a few weeks ago, I noticed that all of the food from each feeder hanging upon it was disappearing at an unusually rapid pace. How can this be? Who could be eating so much food?
The culprit, young Robbie (Grey squirrel). Now, that I knew whom the culprit was, it was time to patiently try and figure out how he was gaining access to the station. Many have tried before him but all have failed.
I watched him for several days as he tried to access the station. He jumped from the ground in an attempt to reach the top of the baffle and nearly did several times. Now that's an athletic little guy. He jumped from a branch in oak two a few times but with no luck. What a daredevil, that branch is pretty high. He scurried up a cassia bush a few times and gave it a go. Oh so close Robbie, but no luck. Lastly he went up a palm tree and carefully walked out on a frond, jumped and missed. That day I watched as he repeated all four possibilities over and over. Hmmm nothing, he wasn't able to access the station while I was watching.
The next morning I looked out the window and Robbie was at the station devouring all of the food. I called shenanigans and watched as he went from feeder to feeder cleaning each one to the very last morsel.
After all, access was not an easy feat and I believed he deserved his treat. For the last time of course.
I never did figure out which of the four potential access points gave Robbie success. I was hoping it was the palm frond or the cassia, both would be an easy fix. I cut the palm frond and tied the cassia bush back. The cassia doesn't get cut backs until butterfly season is over because it's a host plant for sulfurs. So far so good. Robbie has not been able to access the station since that day.
Now don't go feeling sorry for this little daredevil. He and his little friends have access to plenty of food in my yard. They just need to stick to their allotted amount so I don't go broke.
Have a fantastic Friday and happy snapping.
Sandhill Cranes 1762
While the crane on the right stood by and watched with some interest, the crane on the left repeatedly threw things, including himself, into the air.
I think this is a crossover of multiple Chiditarod carts in the same place having fun and passing through Ukrainian Village. The carts set off from the race then have to go to various checkpoints so if you hang out between them, you can spot different ones and get some fun photos for hours!

OK, maybe I'm in a bit of a rut, posting photos of Jasper's backyard shenanigans. But he's really been enjoying the cool weather and loves to catch that Flippy Flopper.
Short Line Shenanigans
Empty oil cans out of Port Westward make their way west on the Astoria District, destined for the interchange with BNSF at Willbridge. These oil trains come from Eland, ND and are put onto a ship at Port Westward to be sent north to the refineries of Northwest Washington. Averaging a little over two trains a month, they are relatively uncommon, though without the need for PTC on the Portland and Western (PNWR), just about any unit that is a face out DPU can lead on the return trip. I had never heard anything about this train other than it being infected with GEVOs, so a timely heads up of a not-GE leader was all I needed to hear.

That's what some people call Shawnigan Lake, north of Victoria, where I live. I called this photo Shenanigan Lake because of the PhotoShop trickery I have employed. The top half of the photo is real, shot at Shawnigan Lake this Fall. The bottom half is not real. However, look at the large size and check out the shoreline. It looks pretty convincing. There's even a guy fishing. The house is cool as well.
A sunny afternoon in Ware, Massachusetts finds the sum of the operable locomotive roster of the Mass Central present and accounted for. GP9 #1749 has made a return to active duty after a long period of being out of service. Despite mechanical issues prior to this image, the 49 is still leading Train PA-2 southbound out of Ware, much to the delight of the local railfan community.
Since the initial trials after being restored to service, the 1749 has turned out to be a reliable third motor for the Central, bolstering their limited locomotive fleet. It's nice to see these units still providing reliable service in 2026.

Shenanigans in Shangan, 10 years ago, a look back at former Dublin Bus route 221, perhaps the shortest ever route & shortest ever operating route.
Introduced in Ballymun to compensate connections at Silloge & Shangan estates following the merger of routes 13 & 51 to a new super cross city route which changed routing.
Short hop route 221, was operated by Harristown Garage, usually an ALX400 class every 30 minutes on a Monday to Saturday timetable from 10.00 to 14.30 hrs, launching 3rd October 2011 & finishing up on 5th May 2012 ( above ).

The We're Here! gang is playing in the Jiggery Pokery group today. Wordplay of all kinds, "especially clever or unexpected usages"!
As luck would have it, my friend Darren and his posse came over today and presented me with this fantastic hoodie. I am now part of their exclusive shenanigans club!

Carrie: "Shenanigatist - a person who has expert knowledge in shenanigans"
Brenda: "Shenanigator - a person who instigates shenanigans"
Darren: "Shenanigatee - a person who is led astray by a shenanigator to participate in shenanigans
