This shot was taken way back in 2014 on a glorious May morning. It was only my second ascent of the infamous Sharp Edge up Blencathra, and my first attempt in the dark which made it even more exhilarating. It was a beautiful morning in every respect. It's not often you can stand at this altitude at that time of the morning in a t-shirt, but it was so temperate and calm that I did with ease. The photography conditions were perfect as there was a small gap on the horizon between the hilltops of the distant North Pennines and the layer of cloud above. This 'letterbox' (as I think it's known by other photographers) allowed the sun to appear momentarily before disappearing again. The light only lasted for a minute or two, but it was definitely worth it.

It's an oldie but still a firm favourite of mine. Taken about 6 years ago on the ascent of Blencathra at sunrise, this was the view looking back down Sharp Edge with Scales Tarn beneath. The sun rose into a small gap on the horizon, illuminating the scene for only a few precious minutes before disappearing again. It was truly perfect conditions for mountain photography; it's not often you can stand at this altitude in a t-shirt without a breath of wind, but it was really like that! It's definitely a morning I haven't forgotten......

It's my daughter's idea. She is very passionate about Canadian hockey.

Very sad to learn that Steve Watkins, editor of Outdoor Photography, passed away recently. This photo appears in this coming month's Outdoor Photography and his email congratulating me on it came just a couple of weeks before he passed away. His email was full of his warm words of support and encouragement. Although I never met him, Steve will be missed by me and I'm sure many others.

This is the far side of the lake the spot with a lone tree is but as you can see I've disregarded that and concentrated on a branch in the water. Camera info Sony A73-1/60 sec-atF8-iso100-24-105 G.
What’s up guys? Here is another stormy image from the Windy City. I had high expectations for this sunset that didn’t pan out as expected. At least I got there just in time to catch the last few moments of light just before sun got covered with the thick layer of clouds. What do you think?

The Macro Mondays theme this week, is Edge.
When I think of Edge, I think of something sharp. A nice sharp edge. How do you know an edge is nice and sharp? You test it.
And what better test is there than splitting a hair.
The photo is exactly what it looks like. A double edged razor blade, and a hair held by a pair of tweezers. No tricks were employed to get this shot.
All it took was a lot of concentration, and very fine motor skills.
Best viewed large.

A 1:1 crop of just Sharp Edge from the other morning, suggested by Glenn Reay, works really well I think.

I haven't been over Sharp Edge since this picture was taken back in 1995. Fingers crossed I will be up there on Monday, however I need to assess my hiking pals attitude to exposure and if they don't feel right I will save the ridge for another day.
As for the choice of headgear, well somethings improve with age and daft fashions get shelved never to be seen again.
