Uch or Uch Sharif Urdu: اوچ شریف) (Greek: Alexandria En Indo Potamo) is located in 75 km from Bahawalpur in Bahawalpur District, South Punjab, Pakistan Uch is an important historical city, being founded by Alexander the Great. Formerly located at the confluence of the Indus and Chenab rivers, it is now removed to Mithankot, some 100 km from that confluence. It was an important center in medieval India, as an early stronghold of the Delhi Sultanate in the 13th century during the Muslim conquest. Uch Sharif contains the tombs of Bibi Jawindi, Baha'al-Halim and Jalaluddin Bukhari, which are considered master pieces of Islamic architecture and are on the UNESCO World Heritage Site tentative list.

It is believed that in 325 BCE Alexander the Great founded a city called Alexandria on the Indus at the site of the last confluence of Punjab rivers with the Indus.[1] Nevertheless, some historians believe that Uch predates the advent of Bikramjit when Jains and Buddhists ruled over the area, and that Mithankot or Chacharan Sharif was the true settlement of Alexandria.[citation needed] In AD 712, Muhammad bin Qasim conquered the city and during the Muslim period Uch was one of the centres of Islamic studies of South Asia. There are several tombs of famous mystics (Sufis) in Uch, notably the tombs of Syed Jalaluddin Bukhari and his family. These structures were joined by a series of domed tombs; the first is said to have been built for Baha’ al-Halim by his pupil, the Suharwardiya Sufi saint Jahaniyan Jahangasht (1307–1383), the second for the latter’s great grant daughter, Bibi Jawindi, in 1494, and the third for the latter’s architect.

Flooding in the early 19th century caused serious damage to the tombs, including structural problems and the deterioration of masonry and finishes.[2] As the problems have persisted, the "Uch Monument Complex" was listed in the 1998 World Monuments Watch by the World Monuments Fund, and again in 2000 and 2002.[3] The Fund subsequently offered financial assistance for conservation from American Express.[4]

In diesen Gegenden hatten Regierungsorgane (z.B. Polizei) wenig Einfluss. In den Linienbussen, die zwischen den großen Städte verkehrten, fuhr neben dem Fahrer vorn immer ein Wächter mit einer uralten Vorderladerflinte mit, der den Bus vor Überfällen schützen sollte.

A while ago I read an interview with a photographer that told that when he takes photos, he leaves them aside for six months, and only then starts working on them. Assuming this is his method, I admire his 'nerves'. I wonder how many could adopt such a method. I agree that after six month your perspective is more like that of a viewer, but what about the passion?

Originally, the mosque was built in the Kazan Kremlin in the 16th century. It was named after Kul Sharif, who was a religious scholar who served there.

The current building is a replacement, constructed in the first years of the 21st century and completed in the year 2005.

The signal box at Golra Sharif North Jn is located between two diverging routes just north of the station. So that the signalman can view all train movements, every wall has windows. Normally, the wall at the rear is windowless. UK signalling rules require the signal to be replaced to danger after the tail light has passed the signal. Obviously, you can’t do that if you can’t see what’s going on! I assume with our colonial history, Pakistan Railway rules are similar to ours. The signalman at Golra Sharif Jn North Cabin soaks up some sunshine to warm up on 16th November 2025.

The Shrine of Hazrat Ali, also known as the Blue Mosque, is a mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan. It is one of the reputed burial places of Ali, cousin and son-in-law of Muhammad. It is the building which gives the city in which it is located, Mazar-i-Sharif (meaning "Tomb of the Exalted") its name.

According to Shi'a Muslim belief, Ali was originally buried by his two sons, Hasan and Husayn in an undisclosed location, which was later made known by the great, grandson of Husayn and Sixth Shi'a Imam, Ja'far as-Sadiq - as the grave that is found within Imam Ali Mosque in Najaf, Iraq.

The story the founding of the shrine indicates that, shortly after the murder of Ali and the burial of his body at Najaf, near Baghdad, some of Ali's followers worried that his body would be desecrated by his enemies, and they placed his remains on a white female camel. Ali's followers traveled with the camel for several weeks, until the camel ultimately fell to the ground exhausted. The body was then reburied where the camel fell. The body was said to be rediscovered there in the 12th century.

The crowd was building up as the time for the arrival of this train came nigh. Thankfully, we climbed up on the foot-over bridge before the arrival, otherwise we would've been caught in the almost trampede-like situation. See it for yourself!

Explore: Jun 12, 2008 #447. Golra Sharif shrine near Islamabad in Pakistan. Photo taken during my tour of Pakistan in 2006. This was the first time I visited such religious shrines and since I mainly travelled alone I was always extra cautious in terms of people's sensitivity to photography. If they weren't happy about it, then fine:-) I didn't have any problems, however. This is the entrance to the mosque and has different styles of Arabic calligraphy on the marble facing.
