Shaikh Isa's house, in the old town of Muharraq, was once the home of the Amir`s great-grandfather, Shaikh Isa Bin Ali Al khalifa . It provides a fine example of local architecture, complete with wind tower, wall carving and lattice work, and its representative of traditional 19th century life. One of the oldest existing houses of Bahrain, of which the beauty lies in the details.

Sheikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa House is located in the center of the old capital of Bahrain (Muharraq City). The house is one of the city's attractions and is considered one of the oldest houses. Built at the end of the 18th century by Shaikh Hassan bin Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Fateh during the ruling of his father Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. It was for many years a dwelling and the seat of the government of Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa (1869-1932), the seventh ruler of Bahrain from the Al Khalifa family and the great grandfather of the present King of Bahrain, His Majesty Shaikh Hamad bin Isa bin Sulman Al Khalifa.

The house consists of four sections, and each section contains a courtyard encircled with rooms and other facilities such as guest section, family section, Sheikh section and servants quarter. The courtyards are surrounded by Arabic arches, arabesques and perforated walls. The house is marked with its huge walls and small doors designed to protect them from heat in summer and the severe cold in winter. This type of architecture represents the military defensive architecture style of the past. The house was built by using the traditional materials available at that time such as: sea rock, plaster, lime, palm and tree trunks etc. Following the departure of all its inhabitants Shaikh Isa bin Ali House was renovated in 1976 and the same above-mantioned building materials were used in its construction.

NASA video release January 19, 2012

Global temperatures have warmed significantly since 1880, the beginning of what scientists call the "modern record." At this time, the coverage provided by weather stations allowed for essentially global temperature data. As greenhouse gas emissions from energy production, industry and vehicles have increased, temperatures have climbed, most notably since the late 1970s. In this animation of temperature data from 1880-2011, reds indicate temperatures higher than the average during a baseline period of 1951-1980, while blues indicate lower temperatures than the baseline average.
