A rally and press conference was held on Tuesday afternoon April 10th at the Daley Center in downtown Chicago to call attention to the fact that the state of Illinois is one of fourteen states yet to pass the Equal Rights Amendment.
The Equal Rights Amendment states that: "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of sex". The E.R.A, would provide legal protection for women in various ways including gender-based violence, equal pay, and pregnancy discrimination.
70% of America's poor are women. This also affects the children who depend on them.
Women make up roughly half the workforce and constitute two-thirds of minimum wage workers.
Women earn 79 and 44% of what men make adjusted for their race. The latter figure applies more to blacks and Hispanics.
Women are twice as likely to retire in poverty as men.
Passing the E.R.A. would ensure that employers could not give women less pay for doing the same work as a man.

On Friday, October 16th, Lt. Governor Karyn Polito issued a proclamation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, handing the proclamation to a representative from the Massachusetts Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Violence, Jane Doe. The proclamation was followed by a meeting of the Governor's Council to Address Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, headed by the the Lieutenant Governor.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn, known as DSK, the 62 year old French economist, politician and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), following his arrest in New York on allegations of sexual assault, has now been indicted by a grand jury to face charges relating to the allegations. Strauss-Kahn was believed to be on the verge of announcing his intention to stand for election to the French Presidency as the Socialist Party candidate, against the incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy. The majority of French believe the allegations are a smear campaign to stifle his candidacy, however a 32 year old maid at his hotel suite claims Strauss-Kahn emerged naked from the bathroom to chase her about the spacious suite and began sexually assaulting her, including forcing her to perform oral sex. July 07, 2015- New York City- Governor Andrew Cuomo is joined by House of Representatives Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi as the Governor signs "Enough is Enough" Legislation to combat sexual assault on college and university campuses into law.The new law requires all colleges to adopt a set of comprehensive procedures and guidelines. The signing took place at New York University School of Law.
Males students walked a mile in women shoes today. A mile-long course with information signs posted about sexual assault, sexual harrasment and gender inequalities was mapped out on campus. Male students then signed a pledge sheet and walked the course in high-heel shoes.

Kahindo, 20, sits in her home with her two children born out of rape in the village of Kayna, North Kivu, in Eastern Congo, April 12, 2008. Kahindo was kidnapped and held for almost three years in the bush by six interhamwe, who she claims were Rwandan soldiers. They each raped her repeatedly, and she had one child in the forest, and was pregnant with the second by the time she escaped. An average of 400 women per month were estimated to be sexually assualted in the autumn of 2007 in eastern Congo, while in the first months of 2008, the figure dropped to an average of 100 women per month.
