SafePlace Olympia has been serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence for well over 30 years. In addition to providing a 24-hour emergency response, a 28 bed shelter, prevention education, survivor support groups, a helpline, legal and parenting assistance; their new expanded community service center in Olympia offers many opportunities for community education and onsite survivor support groups, so crucial to healing. SafePlace provides much needed advocacy services to a diverse population of survivors and their families.

Carmen Serano, an actress who had a role in Breaking Bad and a sexuall assault survivor shared her story of being at the top of her game to filing for divorce and suffering from depression because of an assault. She also shared how Strength United helped her bring her life back together and rekindling her relationship with her ex-husband who is now her boyfriend. She spoke to hundreds of people at California State University, Northridge at the Walk A Mile In Their Shoes event on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014.
