"I was a victim of an aggravated sexual assault in the first degree with a deadly weapon. I had a gun put to my head, tied up after being sexually assaulted and told I was never going home."

automatically generated text: A goose being force-fed, La Ferme du Treil, Courbiac de Tournon, France, Monday, November 22, 2010.

A tube is inserted into the bird's oesophagus and maize mash is pumped down the tube. Farmer Bernard Laverge massages the goose's neck to encourage ingestion. The process takes less than a minute per bird.

At the start of the force-feeing programme, each goose receives 300g of maize per day. By the end of the three week feeding period, the daily quantity of maize fed has risen to 1.4 kg. An average goose weighs between 7 and 8 kg.

The Men Against Rape Program at North Carolina State University placed 14,000 flags across the campus this past week. 14,000 represents the number of female students at NC State. Each red flag stood to represent the number of females that will experience sexual assault or rape at some point in their lifetime. Out of every 4 flags placed, there stood 1 red flag.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Location: North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

Hundreds of Soldiers and civilians gathered at the running track next to Natcher Physical Fitness Center early Sept. 23 to run laps. Unlike the normal physical training that occurs there during any given workday, this gathering was called to bring greater awareness to the issues of sexual assault and harassment within the military, what officials with the Fort Knox Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention program are calling “Walking for 7,623+.”

Our annual Women and Men Making a Difference Luncheon was held on October 9, 2015 at the Colville Community College. Tom Thelen, bullying prevention speaker, was this year's keynote. Tom also traveled to four schools to provide anti-bullying assemblies. The four schools (Wellpinit, Springdale, Valley and Colville) also received his book, DVD and curriculum. Wo+men Making a Difference raises funds for Rural Resources Victim Services and Kids First Children's Advocacy Center. Without the support of our community, we could not provide the breadth of services currently available. Thank you to all who support our mission of ending abuse in Stevens and Ferry Counties!

Rural Resources Victim Services' mission is to "create an abuse-free environment in Stevens and Ferry Counties." Rural Resources Victim Services offers advocacy to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, elder abuse and all crimes. Rural Resources Victim Services also offers free prevention and awareness education to the public. www.ruralresources.org

"Dominic Strauss-Kahn is a powerful global figure who has been accused of a string of sexual offences and is still under investigation for his role in a prostitution ring. By inviting him to speak, the Cambridge Union risks colluding with attitudes that condone or trivialise violence against women. Ironically the event comes one day after International Women's Day (8th March) when people around the globe will be taking action on sexual and other violence against women." - Holly Dustin, Director of the End Violence Against Women Coalition

A rally and press conference was held on Tuesday afternoon April 10th at the Daley Center in downtown Chicago to call attention to the fact that the state of Illinois is one of fourteen states yet to pass the Equal Rights Amendment.

The Equal Rights Amendment states that: "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of sex". The E.R.A, would provide legal protection for women in various ways including gender-based violence, equal pay, and pregnancy discrimination.

70% of America's poor are women. This also affects the children who depend on them.

Women make up roughly half the workforce and constitute two-thirds of minimum wage workers.

Women earn 79 and 44% of what men make adjusted for their race. The latter figure applies more to blacks and Hispanics.

Women are twice as likely to retire in poverty as men.

Passing the E.R.A. would ensure that employers could not give women less pay for doing the same work as a man.
