Again with an IR thermometer to measure temperature at the back of a bunch of servers. The red dot in the top right of the themometer is the laser indicating where the themometer is measuring the temperature from. Hand held without a flash on an f/4 lens so could be sharper.

Jukebox Teardrop Speaker Wireless Concept Test
Requirements for various speakers in my home connected to my home music server:
1) WiFi wireless connectivity. I don’t use bluetooth.
2) AirPlay capable (hard requirement).
3) Battery powered (when practical).
4) Sexy!
I found a company in the United Kingdom that makes a “reproduction” of a classic 1940s jukebox teardrop speaker. They have a dealer here in the USA. Yes, anyone who is on a jukebox group knows that it is not real so please, “Hold your tongue!” Surely, 99% of the public who take notice of it, would not know its a reproduction or even what it is. At most, they’d say it was “old fashioned.”
It’s a passive speaker which I can’t utilize at this point. I decided to do what I could with items that I had on hand to put it to use.
I took off the back and removed the speaker and its mounting board, and the wiring (which I saved for future projects). I looked around home and found an Apple HomePod Mini (Not the finest audio, but sounds passible in a small room and deals well with stereo being played out of one device). I have a rechargeable base for it which would allow the “Jukebox Hero” speaker to operate without a cable going to a wall outlet.
My plan was to imbed the wireless Apple HomePod Mini into the casing so I could hang it up on a wall and play music to it from my home music server without any cables leading to a wall plug. The battery pack just barely wouldn’t fit when I attempted to mount the back speaker cover. I opened the battery pack up and unscrewed the portion that holds the HomePod (didn’t need that part anyway).
I secured the wireless speaker in place (temporarily, as this is just a concept test) with some packing materials. I can access the USB-C cable to charge the battery through the port where the speaker wires used to connect.
The best place to mount the speaker, in my situation, was my bathroom. It looks good there and it lets me listen to big band or 1920s or 30s music on my home music server while I’m shaving or showering. For an effort that cost almost nothing, I’m quietly pleased with the results.
Note: The casing of the teardrop (lonely teardrop) speaker is semi-transparent. I threw in a ribbon of battery powered LEDs for evaluation. It looked cool… I will take an excursion on this at a later date (see photo).
