Alternator died in Sequim. This delayed the start of our trip, oh, about 8 hours. Which meant it was pitch dark by the time we got to the trailhead, and we had planned on being hiked a few miles in already before camping.
We slept in the truck at the ranger station, and then were woken up about 7am by the ranger, who told us it was illegal to sleep there but was nice enough not to cite us.
We then spent a few more hours driving *back* to Port Angeles to get the proper camping permits and a bear canister. So by the time we actually started hiking we were nearly an entire day behind schedule.
