Seemingly absorbed in distant thought, a mature gent keeps a close clutch on his afternoon latte in Chicago's Chinatown neighborhood.

Wednesday morning Karen and I made our way to the park to get some fabulous fall shots, then jumped in the car and went for a scenic drive through beautiful Calderon..

along Old Base Line we spott5ed a elderly man slowly walking along the side of the road. it was this amazing scene of brilliant vibrant fall colours and a solitary shadowy figure dressed in dark colours contrasted against a foreboding rain filled sky.

Karen had got a bit ahead of me as i was photographing some of the graffiti, I managed to catch her just before she exited the tunnel..

Shot in the late 1970s on tri-x. I didn't keep great records when I was in High School and College so I don't know the exact date. The photograph was taken in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, New York. I'm always inspired by people being active as they age especially back in 1970s. A cold day and the men are outside playing cards. As I age I appreciate this more and more.

While touring the Chambord Chateau, I noticed this tiny lady negotiating the very same intimidating staircase that I was on! She was moving very slowly and with great deliberation. I was fearful and fascinated at the same time, and noticed that same look on several nearby faces...including my husband’s! While you can’t tell from my photo because I wanted to focus on Madame, there were several men who quietly moved in and were ready to prevent disaster. No worries! We all breathed a collective sigh of relief when she reached the ground floor, and tottered off without a backward glance at all her would-be castle knights! “One of the architectural highlights is the spectacular open double spiral staircase that is the centrepiece of the château. The two spirals ascend the three floors without ever meeting, illuminated from above by a sort of light house at the highest point of the château. There are suggestions that Leonardo da Vinci may have designed the staircase, but this has not been confirmed.”

Happy Birthday Dorothy Rose. A standing ovation. That's what she deserves just for getting up the stage. Dorothy Rose does more than that. She sings with vigour and strength not usually associated with little, white hair, 98 year old lady (yes, Ninety-Eight in late July). She is not just sitting lonely at home, but gets up and goes where they play her music. She was a regular at Chick'n'Deli and still sings with Climax Jazz Band. Hopefully, I will see her and hear her again soon. She now sings for her neighbours during Covid19 shutdown. On this photo she is at the Rex and joined Red Hot Ramble to sing few tunes. Trombonist RJ is obviously enjoying the performance. Dorothy Rose died on 28. Oct. 2022 at the age of 100. Life well lived!

On June 21 2008, legendary Hollywood star Jane Russell will celebrate her 87th birthday. In 2001 she reached the milestone age of 80 and in celebration, artist Stephen B Whatley surprised her with the gift of this cartoon tribute card, inspired by the star today - and she touched his heart with this letter.

Born in 1921 in Bemidji, Minn., USA, Jane Russell came to public attention, in a blaze of publicity, as a voluptuous brunette in Howard Hughes's film The Outlaw (US 1943) and through a movie career lasting from 1943 to 1970, revealed a warm likeable, wise-cracking character; which is still apparent in her television interviews today. On a recent television interview screened in the UK, after watching clips of herself in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (US 1953), she dryly commented to the studio audience that , sure she had changed "...but then so have you!" In 2000 she was interviewed by Larry King on CNN and asked about her health secrets, revealed her pearls of personal wisdom: asked if she exercised, she said, " Well, I like to dance - but it sure is hard to find a partner!" - and then to the question as to whether she took any health pills (vitamins) , "...Well, I take something to sleep".

An ability to laugh at herself has kept her fondly held in the public's affection. Jane Russell also has a deep Christian faith...God Bless her, long may she star!
