This flower was grown to perform a few simple tasks. To be pretty, to be white, to blend in, to be perfectly symmetrical, and to pose for pictures! What's so hard about that!!!!

But, not THIS flower. Oh, no! This flower unfurled its petals like a bird gone wild, in a manner of its own choosing. It is about as symmetrical the tangle of wires beneath my desk. It acts as if self-determintion is a good thing! Of all the nerve!!!!

THIS flower has been beseeched, cajoled, reprimanded, bribed, threatened, badgered, and finally, incarcerated in a vase until it dies, and yet THIS flower will not stop dancing. This flower has an attitude!

Since I have two magnolia trees in bloom already, the garden is telling me, "We have the power here! NOT you!"

My apologies for the lack of comments lately, my fine flickr friends, but I have been rather busy 'walking into the light' -- walking daily, looking after myself and working longer hours as my editorial job has expanded. Shorncliffe Jetty, 24/06/07. Large on black.

This is a shot of someone bungy jumping in The Hague, Holland. I was standing on the pier with a 70-300 mm. In color, it does not have the same impact as it does in BW and that's probably why, i have undermined it's presence in my hard drive for months. After the conversion, this very simple shot gained a new dimension. May be because the sky is so dramatic... the truth is that while i was post processing, the idea of someone being hanged, or somekind of other punishment, just kept coming back to me. So i had to dedicate the shot, and the title, to all citizens that die or have died fighting for great causes (and fortunately there are so many of them). There are some great emotions, among others, they all share with this guy hanging upside down:

- joy de vivre,

- will,

- fate,

- selfdetermination,

- trusting others,

- fear,

- adrenalin

- no fear,

and a huge massive dose of courage to jump!

so now, all of you know the story behind this one! and no, i was not on a plane and i did not photoshop this. I didn't have to. All i had to do, was being there at the right time and compose. Have a great weekend, everybody.

La matinada del 20 de setembre la guardia civil ha entrat en diversos departaments de la Generalitat i ha detingut 14 persones vinculades al Referèndum del 1 d'Octubre. Ens hem estat hores davant el Departament d'Economia bloquejant-hi la guardia civil. I encara han continuat hores més!

In the path towards the Self-determination Referendum in Catalonia, September 20th was an important day because the spanish government detained at least 14 people and de facto liquidated the political authonomy of Catalonia. Here we are blocking the spanish police inside one of the official buildings.

Vaig trobar aquestes noies al centre de Sabadell durant la vaga del 3 d'octubre contra la repressió policial del referendum. He vist fotos similars en altres punts de Catalunya. Els hem de plantar a la cara d'aquells que diuen que dividim la societat. Tothom és benvingut, en pacifisme i democràcia, en una Catalunya oberta i alhora sobirana.

I saw these three girls in the demonstration against the police violence against the self-determination referendum of October 1st, 2017. I've seen several images of similar groups, specially of young people, in other towns of Catalonia. One bears the Spanish flag, and their friends a Catalan independence flag.

It's the best proof against all thos who say that we want to raise frontiers and hate, promoting a backward nationalism. It's not the case, we don't hate Spain (maybe the demophobic and corrupt spanish institutions), and just want a country of our own. Nor better or worst than all others. And an open and civic country to offer a better future to our children.

El 3 d'octubre, en protesta per la represió i violencia policial del referendum d'autodeterminació, a Sabadell i a moltes altres ciutats de Catalunya es varen dur a terme gegantines mobilitzacións. The huge demonstration held in Sabadell in October 3rd, 2017, against the police violence of the Catalan self-determination referendum. It was one of the biggest (or maybe THE biggest) demonstration in my hometown, usually not much active for this kind of things. They spoke of arround 30.000 people in the Eix Macià avenue, one of the largest in the city.

Al llarg de la dificil campanya electoral del referèndum d'autodeterminació del 1 d'octubre, desenes de milers varem sortir nit rera nit a empaperar i encartellar pobles i ciutats de Catalunya, tot i la persecució policial.

Alguna nit vaig encartellar el ja famós de #encartellem en blanc i negre. Però una nit varem anar companys de la ANC a posar-ne de mes grossos i en fanals més alts. Van aguantar la majoria fins el dia del referèndum!!

The firefighters showing their compromise with the people and with democracy, during the harsh attack by the spanish police all arround Catalonia on October 1st, 2017. They even painted "Democracy" in their trucks!

This is the polling station at St. Oleguer Communiy Center, in Sabadell, during the self-determination referendum held that day.

Just as we started all came to a sudden stop, as the web connexion, vital to the voting system, was blocked and the vote didn't began till 10:30am at least. The crowd was huge and even started to rain.

Much more dramatic were the news that polling stations all arround Catalonia were being savagely attacked by the spanish police, people beaten and the boxes stolen. But our luck stood with us and we had no attack, closing at 8PM.
