Like a sword, a word can wound or kill, but as long as one does not touch the blade, the sword is no more than a smooth piece of metal. Someone who knows the qualities of a sword does not play with it, and someone who knows the nature of words does not play with them.

Macro view taken from the side of a barrel cactus showing the intricacies of it's thorny protection.
Subject is from back in the days when I did pre-dawn street photography in Chicago. A .32ACP caliber small "pocket" pistol (often used by police themselves as a backup pistol). Never had any occasion to remove it from my pocket. Stowed away in a safe these days. (Entire pistol 5 inches longest diagonal.) Weapon specifically created around the Winchester .32ACP hollow point cartridge which is its only approved ammunition. Cropped to under 3 inches. See companion photo for better perspective. www.flickr.com/gp/blackjackstone/ysEvp5
These spiny desert-dwelling plants can have a pretty nasty bite for those who come too close. There are hundreds of varieties of cacti and the spines they use as defense come in countless shapes and sizes. The red spines of the Peruvian Apple Cactus stand out against the green flesh of the cactus's arm.
The tip of this cactus's arm is not much larger than a half dollar. An extension tube was used to magnify the subject. This macro image allows you to see the unique and beautiful spines the Peruvian Apple Cactus uses as self-defense.

One of two UH-60Js presented by the Hyakuri section of the Air Rescue Wing during the base's 2019 open day. This example is preparing to take part in a SAR demo with one of the unit's U-125As.
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" MM theme. Looking down the barrel of a snubnose .38 special revolver. All about the situation and intent I suppose. Weapon held in a vice before a black felt background. Less than 2 1/2 inches. Provocative by intent.
Training in the art of Krav Maga, self-defense is taught along with discipline. It helps teach self-confidence and camaraderie via this self-defense martial art class. Both of our grand-daughters are in this training program and apparently greatly enjoy it. They get a lot of aerobic exercise during their sessions.
I waited almost two years for that beauty! I had already missed the previous flight test on my way to Ramstein (RMS) the day before..
But at least, i made it and the lightning conditions were perfect! I'm a bit sad about the Jumbo retirement but now that was bound to happen.
