“The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them -- words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a teller but for want of an understanding ear.”

Here is an end of 2015 message to you, friends:
Thank you for visiting, commenting and favouriting. You are the ones I learn from. Your attention is very much appreciated.
I wish you all the best at this time of the year.
A time to be grateful for the people in our lives.
Those we need and love and those who love and need us.
Of course, I am grateful to all my Flickr friends wherever you are and whatever you believe in.
Blessings!
Mike.

Here's me.
Campus Circle magazine,
for whom I shoot almost weekly
photo essays and the
occasional cover photo
is doing a photography issue
and asked me to create a page
of photos with text, which I did -
and also to submit a bio
and photo of myself.
I gave them an old photo
of me that my pal
Henry Diltz shot -
but they didn't like its
quality - it was blown up a bit -
so I invited my beamish boy
to shoot his daddy with
daddy's camera
outside of our home-
and I put a sunflower
in a junkyard trumpet to
hold as a prop
and put on my
Bob Dylan hat of feathers
and flowers-
and Jonah Sparks shot
my photo - very quickly,
competently - as he has seen
me do a thousand times -
taking many photos from many
angles while talking to me.
The kid is a pro.
And here you are.
A portrait of me
as photographed
by Jonah Sparks.
Gunnar was diagnosed with a heart failure at the beginning of February. He was originally given,at best, 3-6 months to live but here he is, almost 9 moths later.
Met him outside of
a little cafe on Hollywood
Boulevard, and was struck by
his gaze
and his facial tattoos. He was
sitting with friends. I was with
my companion, my beamish
boy. Always amazes me when
people have tattoos in their
faces. What a commitment.
Last night late I
concocted this photo.

Secret Heart
Based on the myths of Cupid and Psyche and The Dream of Angus, Post Secret, and wishing trees, I want you to think about the things that you wish you had said to a past significant other or something that you want to say to a current one right now. In both myths, lovers were split apart by other people or simply by the fact that one had only seen the other in a dream. Cupid marries Psyche in secret to avoid the ire of the goddess of love, Venus. He can only come to her in the night so that she cannot see him and does not say one word to her because he cannot reveal his identity. Angus falls in love with Caer in a dream and remains lovesick until she is found.
In the present day, separation of husbands and wives and boyfriends and girlfriends mirror the two myths in a sense. The recurring theme is separation, whether it is due to war, jobs in other countries, death, or simply because they cannot remain in a relationship together despite still being in love. In order that we may use our communicative abilities with those whom we love while we have the chance or say the thing that we have always wanted to say to a significant other from the past, thereby releasing a secret (requisite of Frank Warren’s community art project Post Secret), I give you that chance now.
On the tags that I provide, with photos of hearts on one side indicating that the message is from the heart, write down what you want to say, tied to the past or from the present. After you have written down your message, hang the tag on the wishing tree. Once the messages are on the tree, they are carried on the wind and air into the atmosphere, symbolically expressing your message for you and paving the way for you to voice them yourself or move on from the past.

9/14/08 - I spent the day in Washington D.C. with my parents and a friend who's very close to me. We went to visit my sister, her friend, and her boyfriend. I had an amazing day with amazing people. I saw the most wonderful sunset I've ever seen on the way home and rested my head. I'm more than content. Last night was an insane night and I was scared to tears. It was worth it. Today was the cherry on top of a sweet weekend.
"You know my heart, (so tell me honestly did you ever really want this?) knows all these parts. ('Cause my jealous heart can't take that.)" - Mayday Parade.
Took many shots of my
beloved and yes,
beamish boy -
on the boulevard of
dreams, Hollywood Boulevard -
this past weekend. Passing one
nicely painted wall, I asked him to
pose wearing my hat of
flowers and feathers -
and he happily obliged -
in a good mood cause we both
love Hollywood - and he got
a new red feather and
a magnet and a
Simpsons poster and
a quesadilla, so life is
good and fun
and I took two photos I loved
here - so merged
them into this one.

At the south side of
Hollywood Boulevard
just west of Las Palmas
these three dudes were
posing with one of the
Walk of Fame stars - and were
being filmed and mugging for
the camera. The Walk of Fame
has many blank stars - without
any names or insignias yet -
to be filled later sometime -
and this was one.
I took some shots of them
being filmed and then
when they were done asked
them to pose for me, and here they
did. I asked them why a blank
star
and they said so their names
could go there. Not sure what
they were filming this for,
who knows?
Last night late I
painted the star.
