Isis, the ancient Egyptian Goddess, was the first daughter of Geb, god of the Earth, and Nut, goddess of the Sky. Once revered by all as the ideal mother and wife as well as the patroness of nature and magic, her power began to wane as new religions sprang up and silenced her along with so many others. She was left to hide away in what was once a grand and ancient temple built in her honor. There she waited alone as millennia passed and times and people changed. A spiritual shift began to take place and interest in the ancient ones was refueled by many, especially women seeking to regain the power they felt was stolen from them. It was rumored among the modern people that Isis still lay in a suspended sleep-state in her once glorious temple that had long since been sealed up. A brave group of women ventured out to see if it was true. Chiseling away at the pyramid, they were able to remove a single ancient brick. A ray of pure blinding sun shot through to the center of the temple where countless mirrors directed the light on the slumbering Goddess. Her eyes dart open and suddenly her ancient robes woven with pure golden silk begin to let off bright sparks of divine light. She stands proudly knowing she has been called back to her power, never to be silenced again.

Our second Runway Challenge for the 2014 Colour of Couture Top Model Competition was to style a look inspired by the Thom Browne Spring 2014 collection.
In what was considered possibly "the creepiest" show from NY Fashion Week yet, Browne's RL designs were displayed on a runway as cold and sterile as a mental hospital complete with surreal "nurses" and "mental patients". Browne mixed this macabre ambience with a one of a kind blend of Baroque (all white, ruffled collars, exaggerated shoulders) with an almost 1940's sensibility (bobby socks, snoods, pencil skirts). These elements combined with Browne's idea of putting a "clown" on the runway (he had never seen one in real life), inspired one of the most talked about collections of the season.
While styling my interpretation of this collection, I focused on the themes of Baroque, tones of white, and the idea of being caged and somewhat deranged.

Inspired by the Maison Martin Margiela - Haute Couture spring 2014 "Artisanal" collection. This inventive collection literally looked like a "collection" of scraps of different luxurious textiles, jewels, and tapestries all pieced together in Margiela's unique creations. I was inspired by a particular jacket in the collection which appeared to be made out of none other than foil. This top from .Shi, with it's asymmetric cut and belted waist, was just the design I was looking for. The pants from Solidea Folies, came close to a pair worn with a particular Margiela design which exuded an almost gypsy/ circus like flair. I wanted to give my styling an almost industrial edge, so kept the colors metallic down to the chunky jewelery by Amorous. To add a splash of color, and as a nod to the full masks worn by the models in Margiela's runway show, I accented my styling with Solidea Folies "Conceptual" half mask in red. I took my inspiration from the Monochromatic section of DSquared2's Spring/ Summer collection. There were a few black and white looks which I felt really exuded old Hollywood glamor and sex appeal. I knew I wanted to show LOTS of leg, and to do so with a retro high-waisted bottom. I loved the rich look of a snow-white outfit with black accents on the shorts, bra, and jacket.
Many of the models in the collection were seen in big-brimmed sun hats and cat eye glasses so I knew I wanted that to be a part of my styling. I also stuck with soft retro waves and coral colored gloss which I noticed on many of the models, particularly in the monochromatic designs. The over sized tote bag features a crocodile print which I chose after seeing it on some coats in the collection. I completed the look with some statement earrings and an elegant brooch for an elegant finish to the look.
