"You look like a model!" a friend exclaimed when I showed up in a mesh dress. Yay! "But I liked the zhaftig Alex better!" he went on. Hm.
I've been exploring mesh clothes for a few weeks and had a lot of fun and it was an eye-opener for the possibilities with mesh. Indeed a number of very lovely garments are available and some of them really suits me. Others definitely not. And some ALMOST fits me but not quite, and being picky.... right, you know lol! The same can be said about normal apparel and prim garments of course, nothing new there. Or RL clothes for that matter lol!
The biggest disadvantage is that you cannot edit mesh clothes. So basically they fit one shape. Some designers offers several sizes but they are just proportionally enlarged or reduced copies. So often you need to be a "standard size". You can even get a free package of standard size shapes! But who want to be a standard size? I don't, for one lol! And in fact I love to edit prim clothes in various ways, so I miss this part of the fun in mesh. (And btw I HATE "resizing scripts" as they often limits the possibilities of getting an element to fit!)
The thing is that in some cases the alpha and the mesh dress makes you skinny. Or the opposite. Or both, at the same time! It's fun to try out but as I refuse to change my shape such unwanted surgical procedures are not to my liking!
Still some garments are really very lovely and in some movements they react better and look more real than normal SL apparel. Then again from some angles you easily get in trouble as it is conspicuous that the garment doesn't really fit the body or the alpha beneath it suddenly makes it visible that your body is invisible! Or the alpha simply doesn't cover properly or whatever.... I'm not really into how this works technically. I guess for pictures this is not a big issue or it can be corrected afterwards, but for machinimas of course it's a bit of a challenge.
Anyhow I made three videos now showing some of the advantages and disadvantages of mesh apparel. Note that even if some garments does not fit me perfectly they might very will fit you, or one of the possible other included sizes may. Most designers offer a demo, always try it first. And to the few that does not offer a demo: Please do so! And cheers to all the talented designers of SL!
Filmed using Phoenix 1600 so I only wear one mesh item in each clip. In Firestorm you can wear more than one alpha but I can't really get Firestorm to run yet.
This is the third and last of three mesh dress videos.

Halloween is almost here, and I've designed a quilt for it! It was inspired by a free quilt pattern designed by Elizabeth Cecchettini that I found on the web. but I added my own Halloween Black Jack Cat panel to the center and the corners, and put in a few more rows of squares to make it a bit larger. I had to use those Candy Corn borders as soon as I saw them, though!
I've put it on a couple of things for Second Life. This one is on the Rail Quilt, that lets you make your fence, or just use the quilt on a fence or porch rail you already have.
You can find it on the Second Life Marketplace or at The R(S)W Quilt Store on Livingtree, in SL.
