To the changes which will make 2017 a less difficult and conflicted year than that now happily departing. And to all my exceptional contacts, a note of thanks for your enduring loyalty and friendship, and sincere best wishes for that which you most hope for in the following months. You are the best....
As summertime rolls in so do the flies and mosquitos - good idea to have a screen door!

April is National Poetry Month, a celebration of poets and poetry that's been in place for 25 years.
Last month, as the U.S. grieved over attacks against Asian Americans, NPR's Morning Edition collected poems on how people grapple with the increased violence and discrimination.
Over 500 listeners shared powerful, poignant poems — in the form of a list beginning with the word "today." They showcased fear, anger, empathy and motivation to make the world a better place.
NPR's resident poet Kwame Alexander took lines from the submissions to create a community poem, "Today, I Am A Witness To Change."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To quote just a few:
Today I hesitate
for the first time, I wonder if I should stay home and not walk the neighborhood.
it's not the weather or the virus — the day is beautiful
Today
I'm frozen
Terrified.
I cannot hide
This skin
This hair
These eyes.
I see the punch, punch, punch of a community at war.
Today I am a witness.
I rush past the jeering white boys that say I brought corona to America.
My soul is wary.
Today, a video call full of empty boxes
Stares at me, apprehensively.
Students locked behind a screen
Their hearts and minds
Severed
From one another.
Today, the headlines say March Madness
Today, I don't watch basketball.
The madness is in the streets.
In broad daylight.
On the concrete sidewalks of New York.
In the silence of bystanders.
It's in the textbooks. The classrooms. The family dinners. The lies we tell.
Today the rain falls
and falls
and falls
and falls.
a silent tear from a weeping woman.
Today, I will say their names
I will cancel class and try again tomorrow.
That's a scary thought to commute to NYC nowadays for me, even I'm FULLY inoculated. :-(((
It was late afternoon on the 6th Floor of the Whitney Museum, and I was waiting for the elevator. I noticed several people silhouetted against the light streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Soon there was just one person, and as I casually clicked the shutter, the window shades started to lower. The man here was focused on his phone and didn't notice that I took his photo. On the television screen was a video (which I didn't watch) of a city skyline across water, strategically positioned in front of this window, overlooking the Hudson River and the Hoboken, New Jersey skyline. The Whitney is exhibiting the Biennial right now, delayed a year by COVID, and a docent told me the 6th floor is deliberately dark and broken up into a warren of dark, tiny rooms, meant to represent the isolation of the first year of COVID's social isolation. So when you gonna tell her that we did that, too?
She thinks it's special, but it’s all reused
That was the show we talked about
Played you the songs she's singing now when she's with you
I know you get déjà vu
Given the recent wintry weather, together with the substantial residential developments that have taken place in Harpur Hill since this image was taken, I've decided to shunt this shot forward from 8 years ago as a reminder of the rather more sleepy hamlet it used to be. The original upload has been deleted.
The main subject is the row of dwellings but, just above them, one of the few trains a day that use this active quarry line is discreetly approaching. Well, perhaps not so discreetly given a labouring locomotive and quite the climb at this point.
DBS shed 66154 is at the head of the 11.10am Tunstead - Briggs Sidings, Hindlow (6H22) 1600t loaded limestone. The train is unusually being top and tailed by unit 66238 just about visible at the back, this due to points damage at its destination caused by a derailment a month earlier.
As usual there's something uniquely attractive about a village in the snow and I snapped the train early to avoid drawing the eye too much away from the houses. Looks best full-screen, but not for everyone!
The warm colors of the sunrise were mostly hidden, except for a small slot on the horizon that kept squeezing smaller as the clouds moved south down the Lake.
