September 22 is the day grades 4 to 10 celebrate Science and Math Week with a fun academic contest to bring out their competitive spirit and motivate them to learn more about these two major subjects. The event is a quiz bee type game that tests the student’s general knowledge of science and math. Students are formed into groups of four (for high school) and five (for grade school) to emphasize cooperation and teamwork

The Faculty of Science offers Science Rocks! summer camps every year throughout July and August. Designed especially for young people in Grades 4, 5, and 6. These camps are great fun and an awesome learning opportunity for campers.
In the morning today, Science Rocks kids focused on interesting behaviours of fire and light and explored the state of solids and liquids. In the afternoon, outdoors activities included water fun in the sun.
The Rotary Club of Nelson Bay supported a Science Discovery Day for primary school students of Port Stephens based on the Science and Engineering Challenge.
The Science and Engineering Challenge is a nationwide STEM* outreach program presented by the University of Newcastle in partnership with communities, Rotary clubs, universities and sponsors.
Through the Challenge, students experience aspects of Science and Engineering which they would not usually see in their school environment.
The Challenge runs a range of programs but focuses on inspiring students in year 10 to consider a future career in science and engineering by choosing to study the enabling sciences and mathematics in years 11 and 12.
*STEM is the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
