Went with a group of PhD students from our center to a Girl Scouts camp being held in the Woodlands to give a demonstration of superconductivity. I wonder if this girl knows she's one of the very select few people to hold a high temperature superconductor in the palm of her hand? More so, I wonder if by chance it will spark some chance she will pursue a path in science?

Just visited the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias again (since it's just a few minutes walk away) and I still enjoy finding new angles!

"From Spins to Stars"

Jason Richards, photographer

Scientists aim to understand the nuclear reactions that power star explosions by using sensitive detectors to track the energy and movement of charged particles as they emerge from nuclear reactions controlled in the laboratory. In this photograph, ORNL Liane B. Russell Fellow Kelly Chipps connects a detector for testing inside of a vacuum chamber before its eventual use in a nuclear reaction measurement.

Only the brightest bricks around get to work at Rocket Science Inc! Visitors are greeted by a reception desk with sofas and flowers. On the second floor there's a state of the art water cooler. Really... that's all there is. On the third floor is the office floor and when work is over there's a sun deck with a professional telescope to watch the stars with. And the whole building is of course powered by solar cells.

There was so much cool stuff in the science museum that i didn't have time to take any good pictures.

The museum has Stephenson's Rocket , an Apollo space capsule and Spitfire & Hurricane fighters hanging from the ceiling.

The Natural History Museum did have whale skeletons hanging from the ceiling but i think i preferred the airplanes.

Brookhaven National Laboratory Linear Accelerator (LINAC) was designed and built in the late 1960's as a major upgrade to the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) complex.

Its purpose is to provide accelerated protons for use at AGS facilities and the Brookhaven Linac Isotope Producer (BLIP). The Linac is capable of producing up to a 35 milliampere proton beam at energies up to 200 million electron-volts (MeV) for injection into the AGS Booster or for the activation of targets at the BLIP.

my wife had been complaining of chronic pain in her knees caused by osteoarthritis, which in her case was caused by wear and tear due to her regular activity. an orthopaedic doctor prescribed genzyme injection to relieve the pain. here she is getting her treatment. a day after the injection the pain level has gone down, from a scale of 1-5 with 5 the most painful, to nearly negligible. amazing science!

Science World at Telus World of Science, Vancouver is a science centre run by a not-for-profit organization in Vancouver.

During the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, Science World was transformed into the Russky Dom, which profiled plans for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. From February 12 to 28, 2010, the general public was allowed into the Russky Dom from noon until 5 p.m. In the evenings, parties were held in the Russky Dom for accredited guests.
