and I couldn't sleep. It's officially the third trimester. From here on out, it's all a waiting game. I was doing so good about sleeping through the night. No problems at all. But two weeks ago, I jinxed it! I stated that, "This pregnancy hasn't really been that bad. I've had no trouble sleeping through the night, no more painful leg cramps/sciatica and I still got energy." At the present moment, I'm exhausted, I have short spurts of energy and now my sciatic nerve is acting up. It sure was nice while it lasted. But I would still do it again. I'm going to miss being pregnant. :o(

In better health news, my sciatica is nearly completely gone. I still get mild pain (1-2 on a scale of 1-10) occasionally but for the most part it is gone. I don't know if the improvement can be attributed to my focus on staying super hydrated, the long term effects of taking fish oil pills (been about 2 months now), or just the passage of time. Whatever the cause, I'm very happy to feel healthy again!

There is a cushion between every 2 vertebra known as disc. The discs protect the bones by absorbing the shocks from daily activities like walking, lifting, and twisting.

Slip disc (Slipped disc) occurs when the soft inner gel like portion of the disc sticks out through the tough outer part of disc called annulus ring. It is also known as herniated disc or disc prolapsed or bulging disc. Sometimes outer part ie annulus ring ruptures and inner gel like portion comes out, it is known as ruptured disc. Slipped discs are equally common in young and older adults. Slipped disc pain is very severe, when it is associated with leg pain.

Any disc in the spine can prolapse. However, mostly slip disc occurs in the lumbar spine, leading to lower spine pain or lower back pain. The size of the prolapse can vary. As a rule, the larger the prolapse, the more severe the sciatica symptoms are likely to be.

ahhh the heat patches. Can you tell how swollen my leg is? This is the day before I went off to the Emergency Room and was told I had Sciatica. Regina needed to get some miles for her continued endurance training in so she rode out there with me. I warned her ahead of time that I'd be traveling at a gentle pace (ie: not a training ride) and stopping frequently to take photos and refer to my phone for directions.
