Okay...so yesterday was my first day birding for a couple of months. Although, sciatica remains to be a pain in the arse (literally), it was so good to drive out to the Salisbury Plain to look for some migrating whinchats. The trip was a success! Plenty of stonechat about also!!

Thank you for taking a look at my images.

May not be around much for the next few days.......very busy plus I am having sciatica issues...so cannot sit at the computer for long periods

Have a great week everyone......

:~)

HBW !!!

Hoping to get better soon ...

Au lit avec une crise de sciatica ... a bientot ...

My sciatica is better and last monday I took a walk over the bridges. So now I´ll soon be with you again as usual.

THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT AND FAVES

ON THE REACTIONS I WILL TRY TO RESPOND BACK

Hallo iedereen .

Groetjes Wilma

Hello everyone .

Yes I've been away for a while, but it was really too hot for me to sit behind the laptop with that super warm weather and 28gr in the living room Pfff, and then the sciatica came to tease me again and couldn't sit behind the laptop for too long but luckily things are going pretty well now and now holidays, so I'm absent from Flickr for a while, I'll be back at the end of September

Greetings Wilma

Insieme al mio fotoclub stamattina siamo stati a visitare Cancelli frazione di Foligno, provincia di Perugia, in Umbria, centro Italia, e i dintorni della montagna praticamente spopolata. Macro Mondays 08/10/18 theme Remedy

This is a pain relief pen and works the same way as a TENS machine just without the wires, pads and batteries. It can help to provide effective relief for many conditions or injuries including; Arthritis, Sciatica, Rheumatism, Back Pain, Migraine, Tennis Elbow and other Sports Injuries.

I don't use it that often in fact it has been used more times for Macro Monday photos.

For this photo I combined two shots, one with my little finger and the pen and a second with the spark jumping from the pen head to an earthed piece of metal......I don't like getting shocked not that this device is painful but trying to take a photo while zapping your finger is something I didn't want to try 😂

Due to having a slipped disc and severe sciatica, I'm going slowly through my catologue of photographs I haven't uploaded in the past.

Happy weekend from the Loch Melfort Hotel, Arduaine, by Oban, Argyll, Scotland, Uk

** Update **

Unfortunately ended in disaster. Developed sciatica on day two, couldn’t walk so had to cut short our break and return home. Still a really beautiful place and lovely hotel so plan to return again soon.

I've been suffering from back-related sciatica lately. No fun. I haven't been out for a week now and was going stir crazy. So I went to see the eagles with my camera and my chair. Here's a shot of a bald eagle who had been on a snag and now decided to return to the nest. They really are beautiful in flight, aren't they?

This photograph/image is copyrighted and may not be used in any way without my permission. If you would like to use it, please contact me via Flickr mail.

Thanks for visiting and for your faves and comments.

If you'd like to see more of my eagle images, go to schockenphotography.com. I have many images of eagles and other raptors as well as owls, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, songbirds and mammals and I have a full section on birds in flight which is my specialty.

Street photography from Glasgow, Scotland.

I love her hair and confidence to carry off such bold colours. She was flattered when I told her after capturing this candid shot from Glasgow, Scotland.

My street shoot in Glasgow didn't go to plan yesterday as I had to leave early with sciatica-like pain. The light was particularly nice too but there will be other days in the future.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone.

An update, I’m still in a bit of discomfort and not getting about, but things are slowly improving, although a bit too slow for somebody as impatient as me. After 3 weeks with this issues it’s eventually become clear it isn’t sciatica. With that said I have now lost a convenient label for my issue however it’s still feels nerve retailed given the radiating nature of my pain it is more centralised in my hip where the first spasms occurred and where have a deep ache if I walk just a little distance. The most uncomfortable aspect at the moment is the pain and numbness traveling along my sartorius muscle across the front of my thigh into inner thigh and knee area. Those later area’s are more like a burning sensation, the area is so sensitive to touch even my trousers rubbing against my legs hurts. It’s been suggested by a Physio that it’s repetitive strain injury and my muscles are going crazy over compensating. The only thing I was repetitive about is walking and maybe a once a week jog to get the heart beating. Tthis is a lot harder for me to understand than a nipped nerve, but things may become clearer in another 3 weeks. I’m now seeing privately a physio who I’m unsure about and the Chiropractor who I see more as prevention of these things reoccurring once my body heals in it’s own time. Todays photo is from November and my little visit to the Lakes. It’s those two pines again but this time in a classic landscape view. Maybe soon I’ll get out to take so new photographs but to be honest I’m not champing at any bit.

Hypericum androsaemum, commonly known as sweet-amber or tutsan.

The common name tutsan appears to be a corruption of toute saine literally meaning all-healthy. This is probably in reference to its healing properties. The leaves were applied to wounds, and as a stomachic. Nicholas Culpeper, in his 1653 publication Culpeper's Complete Herbal, says "Tutsan purgeth choleric humours ... both to cure sciatica and gout, and to heal burnings by fire."

Victorians used to press the (slightly) scented leaves between the pages of their bibles and prayer-books

The Crown has seen better days.

I have had sciatica for a while now - hence being behind with my comments - as it is hard to sit down for long. I think I have got rid of it with a make or break soccer session tonight, so should be back on top soon.

Me and my best friend at the park again today. Due to acute back pain and sciatica this is the first time ive been able to get out with my camera for what seems ages..

Trying out the super takumar 55mm lens, loving it, lots of flare and bokeh.

A look back. One of my walking snaps from my round, Coniston Old man to Wetherlam. As I am finishing the climb up to Wetherlam I look back to the clouds rolling over the Old man of Coniston. It was a walk I was eager to relive having done several times in winters past with my boys when they were young. In the morning I doubted I would be able to do it when I was photographing Tarn Hows. I've had a touch of Sciatica for a couple of weeks which seemed to be playing up more in the morning. But after I got back to the cottage and had a coffee I was off again. So glad I did it as it would have been frustrating otherwise. I love these mountains.

A 'this'll have to do ' shot for today.

I spotted this on my garden fence lunchtime after spending the morning in the Neurology Ciinic of my local hospital.

I had investigations into what's causing my sciatica but also two failed Epley Manouvres . As a result I'm feeling a bit green around the gills so please bear with me over commenting. Thanks

I met this sweet girl walking along the beach at Mudeford this morning. Far cry from yesterday when we had gale force winds and torrential rain.

I'm still having problem with my shoulder which I now find out is actually neck issues. I am having an MRI on 28 April but the guy I saw at the hospital last week thinks it's Brachialgia (like sciatica but in your neck). When I sit at the PC I have my mouse on my thigh otherwise I get acute pins and needles.

Porth Nanven is a small cove on the west coast of Pendeen in Cornwall, famed for its “dinosaur egg” pebbles and a popular spot for photographers. On this visit I didn’t have much decent light and was struggling over the boulders with a bout of sciatica. Nevertheless, I managed to capture a few exposures of the breaking waves that I was pleased with. Thanks for looking.

What should have been a camera club night for me, had to give up on that idea due to Sciatica, which would have been even worse had I sat down for 2.5 hrs...I decided to try and walk off the pain a little...well it worked when I took pictures anyway....very misty last night so I did a tour of my normal spots to see if I could come up with anything....here at Sawley cut the mist virtually shrouded the Power station, which can normally be seen quite easily at the end of this waterway

Dear my Flickr friends,

For the last two weeks, I have been agonised by sciatica which has limited my daily activities. For a while, hopefully not for long, I cannot be as active as usual. Just let you know.

Have a great weekend!

An utterly miserable day! Rain, wind and more rain.

On the plus side... my Paramo trousers still fit! I haven't worn them since the first few weeks of moving in and feared for the worst! Also it took a little longer today before the Sciatica kicked in hard , about 10 minutes rather than 4. I put this down to sticking to easier (paved) terrain for the start of my half hour walk rather than straight over the fields.

I can’t begin to tell you how much these pictures mean to me. It’s been about a year since I’ve been able to get out with my camera. I’ve had a disc issue in my back which has caused horrendous sciatica, I’m just (hopefully) getting back to some normality. I still struggle a bit to get down to and up from the ground!

The common name of cinquefoil is a reference to the fact that his wild herb often has a compound group of five toothed leaflets. There are sometimes seven or more leaflets, though, depending on the species, but five is the most common.

There are actually over 300 different species and even more cultivars of cinquefoil. Some of them are annuals while others are perennials. A few even grow as biennials. The plant is attractive and is sometimes purposely grown for landscaping purposes, though it grows wild in many places. Cinquefoil is a member of the rose family, though the blossoms are usually substantially smaller and normally don’t have the fragrance associated with roses. This plant is also closely related to strawberries and is sometimes called barren strawberries because they don’t produce strawberry-like fruits. The leaves are often similar in appearance to strawberries, too, except that strawberries have leaves of three rather than five or more.

The flowers can be in various colors, but common cinquefoil most often has bright yellow flowers, each with five petals. It is also normally a low growing plant that can function as a ground cover, usually between a half of a foot to a foot and a half tall, although some species grow as a low bush.

This wild herb grows wild in most of the cooler areas of the world. It is very common in the UK, North America and in Europe. In North America, it grows throughout the north and most of Canada. It is sometimes cultivated in the south, too.

Several species of cinquefoil have been used medicinally for a very long time. It was used by the ancient Romans and has been used by Native Americans for at least that long. Both the roots and the leaves have medicinal value and many sources list the plant properties as anti-inflammatory, astringent, antiseptic, antispasmodic and diuretic. Additionally, the plant can be used as a mild febrifuge.

A tea made with a tablespoon of the roots or herb to a cup of boiling water is used for swelling and pain in the mouth, bleeding gums, toothache, stomach ulcers, raw or sore throat, diarrhea, inflammation of the digestive tract, stomach cramps, menstrual pain and several American Indian tribes used it as a laxative. It can be useful to take the tea during a cold or the flu, since is lessens swelling and pain in the throat, soothes the stomach and can ease coughing and helps to control fevers.

When used externally, cinquefoil can aid in controlling the bleeding, pain, and inflammation of wounds, bruises, insect stings, itches, gout, arthritis, sciatica, boils, and acne.

Both the fresh and dried herb can be used, though fresh is stronger in action. An extract can also be made by crushing the fresh roots or leaves, putting these in a jar with a tight-fitting lid and covering them with vodka. The jar is then capped and the mixture is shaken daily for two weeks. The leaves and roots are then filtered out through cheesecloth. The extract is much more potent than the tea, so a teaspoonful is roughly equivalent to a cup of the tea.

Cinquefoil is a plant that is worth learning to recognize on sight and thankfully, this isn’t hard to do. Although the wild herb contains iron, calcium, and magnesium, its main value is when used medicinally rather than as food. This could make cinquefoil especially valuable in a survival situation. For that reason, it could be considered to be a survival herb, though it isn’t normally eaten.

The opening scene as I walked into my favourite woodland on a magical day last December. I’ve posted a similar photo but this one is of a wider focal view. My layup with sciatica could have been worse, a month earlier and I would have missed this. I really appreciate the kind comments I’ve been getting when I moan on about my woes but I must try harder to look on the brighter side of life. I ordered a Stressless recliner over a week ago and I now wait on its delivery in two weeks time. I’ve always wanted one of these chairs but the last time I had a bad episode with my back in 2014 I compromised and bought a recliner that was half the price, to my wife’s chagrin. You are tight she say's or an Italian equivalent. It lasted 4 years before the seat springs started to break and was throw out soon after. If I’d bought the stressless in the first place I’m sure it would be still going. You get what you pay for and it would have saved me £600 in the long run.

Acupuncture practices at KAacupuncture

Disco lighting on my bedroom wall.

I've been temporarily out to lunch and laid up in bed with the flu and a bad back... sciatica is suspected. I felt like I was going into a black hole when I took this shot or perhaps it was the effects of my pain medication :)

I love the effect I have created here with a slower shutter speed. I'm still fiddling around with all the manual settings on my new camera.

The little light worms down the bottom of the photo are cute too ... looks like they are on a mission. ............ or maybe I've had way too much medication .. ☺

I haven't done many adjustments to this photo .. a tad saturation, a crop and a 1% rotation.

A “pretty in pink” wild geranium springing up amidst the fallen autumnal leaves in an open woodland setting near Tod Creek, Gowlland Tod Provincial Park, Vancouver Island, BC.

The Herb-Robert Geranium (Geranium robertianum) is both a winter and a spring annual or bienennial. It is a low-growing plant that is hairy and shallowly rooted, its leaves have a pungent smell. Geranium robertianum aka Robert's geranium was introduced from Eurasia and is considered an invasive weed in BC. It inhabits clearings, meadows, grassy openings, and open forests. It is well established in southwest BC down to the Pacific coast to California.

Some people use Herb Robert as a mouthwash or gargle and insect repellent. Additionally, it has various medicinal properties for sore mouth and throat. It can also be applied to the skin for mosquito bites, parasites, herpes, arthritis, and sciatica.

Another of the feral kittens. This was taken over the gate.

I am pleased to report that the acupuncture has helped with my shoulder but would you believe it, I now have sciatica - aggghhhh! I already had a chiropractor's appointment booked for Monday so maybe she will be able to help.

Obviously nothing major planned this weekend that involves walking around. Need to be up and about for next Tuesday though as I am meeting my sister in Bath for a bit of Christmas shopping.

Happy furry Friday everyone

Wishing you a carefree weekend

Antiguas Termas Romanas en el miño

Balneario de Lugo, antiguas termas a orillas del miño

Huele a azufre, a cal, a bicarbonato.

Ancient Roman Baths in the river minho

Lugo spa, old hot springs on the banks of the minho

It smells like sulfur, lime, bicarbonate. Unbearably at first. But it is the smell of health. Here, on the banks of the river Miño, there is a historic spa that cures rheumatism, sciatica, asthma, bronchitis, pharyngitis and various skin diseases. Its origin is not clear, although the recent discovery of a Roman sudatio in structures superimposed with an opus signinum pavement would date it to the third century AD. This is also deduced from a parchment found in 996 inside the Lugo cathedral.

RIVER TREES

Along my River...Finally did a Painting!! Such as it is.. Sciatica has been bothering me awhile...

Mixed Media including the Elegant Writer Pen, Watercolor, & Inks.

Looking down Glen Coiltie towards Glen Urquhart, Drumnadrochit and the Great Glen beyond with just a glimpse of the world famous Loch Ness. Not a bad start to the year despite it being a generally wet and windy day!

I have made the pledge (to myself) to get out for half an hour every day and go for a walk - to give me a little exercise and hopefully to help in the battle against the brain weasles. Half an hour is my minimum, more is better... but right now half an hour is enough as the sciatica starts to kick in around 3 1/2 minutes into the walk!

We have a lot to do this year coming though to firmly establish ourselves here so hopefully this will lead to a different direction on the photography front as we enter Year 12 of Photo a Day!

Taken in the British Museum London. One of the last pictures I took that day before the Sciatica set in and I had to return home.

I'm trying something new and a bit different...partly forced on me through having sciatica and not being able to get about but mostly from some vague idea of pushing myself to experiment. I'll post a few and please let me know what you think. These are a few shots deliberately over exposed with a large aperture and fixed focus lens...50mm with 2nd curtain flash...I kind of like them but maybe just me?

A stunning double waterfall during peak rainfall. This waterfall immediately had me captivated at the power and beauty of it and the surrounding area. There was a lot of flooding in the areas I was road-tripping through, but luckily I was able to shoot some gorgeous falls, getting back to my waterfall roots. I forgot my filters in the rig, so went au naturel for this one because I was not about to hike back up the hill with my sciatica acting up. ;)

old-ish pic. Outtake of another 365 image.

I didnt go to Turkey. I've been stuck in hospitals and bed since last week unable to move. I have a really shitty case of sciatica and I've been given no solutionals to help fix it. Only a ton of pills to make the pain go away temporarily. I cant stand or sit up for more than a couple of minutes at a time and when I do, I feel the pain of it for ages afterwards. I'm even finding it difficult to type this but I thought I would update.

I'm just very unlucky when it comes to Istanbul. The last 2 times I've booked flights to visit there, I've gotten severely ill at the last minute. Unfortunetly this time, this shit is expected to last up to 6 weeks so that means I wont be able to shoot for a long while which is a piss take. My whole easter break is being spent in pain in bed. Pissed. I'm very drugged up and bored and would appreciate reading stuff so write to me on formspring! link is in the previous upload.

Another relatively nice day and I thought I'd risk a walk having been pretty much confined to home due to this wretched sciatica for two or three weeks.

I was pleased to find a couple of these common lizards in the same place I usually find them ....... if you manage to spot them that is ! They take some spotting too I can tell you as they are well camouflaged amongst the dead leaves.

Although this one is looking at me it decided to stay put and not disappear like they normally do when they sense or see they've been spotted.

These lizards grow to an average of about 10 - 15cm and can live for up to 12 years.

As the latin name suggests they do not lay eggs but give birth to live young.

The image will enlarge a little.

Taken last September 2016 in my garden this white was making the most of the fading flowers and looking a little jaded itself also.

I saw some butterflies in my travels last year that had considerable wing damage sometimes missing great chunks out of them yet still managing controlled flight with little effort it seemed.

I on the other hand am suffering currently with a bout of sciatica

and am finding it difficult to function at all !

Hey ho !

Image will enlarge slightly.
