Save the Children staff member Raxima Asanova prepares non-food-items for distribution at Save the Children's office in Osh, Kyrgyzstan. Southern Kyrgyzstan has experienced escalating violence between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbek populations since the government in Bishkek was overthrown on 7 April and an interim government took power. The Government of Uzbekistan has reported that more than 75,000 refugees have fled into Uzbekistan from Kyrgyzstan in the last week..

One of Save the Children Fund’s core aims has been to ensure children and young people receive education and training to enable them to support themselves in later life. In the 1920s the Fund established 'workschools' to teach practical crafts and skills.

Girls also deserve to be educated and work towards their goals. They are more than capable to work hand in hand with boys. So, they should not be dominated and should be provided with equal opportunities for education. You can donate for girl child education and play your part. www.savethechildren.in/

The Save the Children Fund's initial work focused on raising funds for existing charitable organisations who administered relief. However, the Fund quickly began to establish programmes of their own, principally focussed on emergency relief and feeding programmes across Europe. They also began to establish programmes to support children within the UK, opening a residential school at Fairfield, Kent in 1928 to provide respite care for inner city children.

This photograph shows relief supplies being unloaded in Saratov Russia, 1921, where the Save the Children Fund established one of their earliest relief programmes in response to widespread famine. Finding number: SCF/PP/OP/2/RUS/3
