About The Project:

Pioneers of the emerging contemporary craft movement are urging people to join them to create a giant jigsaw embroidered with provocative messages to support Save the Children's Race Against Hunger Campaign 2012/2013

Graffiti knitting street artist, Deadly Knitshade, whose street art includes a Parliament Square phone box cosy and a giant upcycled squid, Hilary Pullen, writer of social media tip blog 'Craft Blog UK', and Mr X Stitch, an original manbroiderer, are joining the Craftivist Collective's Jigsaw Project, which launches on World Food Day on October 16th and runs until the spring, joining the campaign to put hunger at the top of the agenda at the G8 next summer and encouraging us all to be part of the solution to tackle hunger, not part of the problem.

Save the Children USA has a program called "Survive 'Till Five". Between pregnancy and the age of five is the most vulnerable time where you have early infant and child mortality.

Save the Children hopes to change this with a series of medical and education programs designed to ensure that children survive until age five and beyond.

In humanitarian situations across the world, children are likely to make up half or more of the population affected by conflicts or disasters. On October 29, 2012, the Child Protection Working Group (CPWG) launched a long-awaited set of interagency minimum standards for child protection developed as common guidelines for the global humanitarian community. USAID's Neil Boothby, UNICEF's Annette Lyth, and Mike Penrose from Save the Children discussed the new standards at a press conference at the United Nations Office at Geneva. Visit cpwg.net/minimum-standards/ for more information about this initiative and the full text of the standards.

Abida, 25, is the proud mother of newborn baby boy, Mithal who is one day old. Originally from Jacobabad, Abida has spent the last eight days sheltering in a Sukkur school with another 2,000 people forced to flee their homes due to massive flooding in Sindh.

“I cried all the time when the floods came,” says Abida. “Everything just gone. Everything under water. I was very worried for my baby.” When Abida went into labour Save the Children health workers, who had established a basic health care clinic in the grounds of the school, referred her to a local hospital. Since the birth, Abida has been given medicines for her baby, and a newborn kit, which includes items like diapers and baby rash cream.

Before establishing the Save the Children Fund, Eglantyne Jebb and Dorothy Buxton joined the Fight the Famine Council to lobby the British government to end the naval blockade and allow vital food and medical supplies into Europe. In April 1919 Jebb was arrested for distributing Fight the Famine Council leaflets without government permission. She defended herself in court, was found guilty, and fined £5. After the trial, however, the prosecuting counsel donated £5 towards her cause.

Jebb asked recipients to sign the letter, which condemned plans to 'cut off' Germany's food supplies. The copy on the right-hand side has been returned by the recipient with manuscript alterations. Asha holds her baby who was born asphyxiated but saved by a midwife who had recently learned to use bag and mask at Save the Children supported community based newborn care program. Her baby is almost two years old now.

“That we may remember that all of us were once a baby in our Mother’s womb. So we may learn from our Mother that she nurtured us in her womb and saved us so that we may enjoy the Beauty of Life. And in return that we may learn to honor, respect and save the Life of others.”

We are God's earthly angels...we are the least, known as the cherubims on Earth...sinners we may be...but God favors us for we have been given a special mission...to help become the Spirit of Truth...as a little guide for all other earthly angels still to be called for Heaven's Divine Plan...

Tiffany*, 12, is a child domestic worker..

"I get up at 6 am, wash dishes, mop, carry water, cook and wash clothes. I wash for my aunt and the other five people in the house, my cousins. I am the only one who works in the house. I sleep on the ground and go to sleep at 8-9 o'clock. I sleep in the same room as four other adult girls but I'm the only one that sleeps on the ground, I sleep on a bed sheet and there are wool blankets under it. I make my bed myself, I make their beds, I wash the sheets for theirs beds and I iron shirts, pants, t-shirts, blouses. I would like to help other children like me. I would pay school for them, give them food, give them things to drink. I would help them because I see them suffering."

These children, who range in age from 5 to 12, have been working for much of their short lives.

They walk between cars on the main roads selling flowers, sometimes work as cleaners, they could even be rented out to professional beggars who use them to earn more money.

They attend the free Jaago school in the Rayerbazar slum. The school has worked with Save the Children on the Every One campaign.
