Thousands of children and their families continue to stream into neighbouring countries. Most of those who've escaped are living in makeshift shelters, unsuitable buildings or in overcrowded camps, amid growing shortages of food, medicine and water.

Save the Children is helping children recover from their experiences within Syria and across the region, to make sure they can access education and to ensure that families have the basic necessities they need to survive including healthcare, warm clothes, nutritious food and shelter materials.

On January 9, 2014, AIP Foundation handed over 140 helmets to primary school-aged students of Thai Rath Wittaya 75 School in Bangkok. At a helmet handover ceremony, students received the high quality helmets kindly donated by Vespiario (Thailand) Co., Ltd. AIP Foundation staff conducted training on proper helmet use, followed by remarks from representatives from the Royal Thai Police and the Office of The Basic Education Commission.

The ceremony marked the end of an experimental trial around police enforcement of helmet wearing at the school. During the two week trial, police officers from the local command patrolled the school's entrance to enforce students' helmet wearing. Students' response to the extra police presence was measured through helmet observations and focus group discussions.

UNICEF defines street children as, "those who are of the street and on the street." In this study, the term street children refers to those children of 5 to 14 years of age who earn their living on the city streets and stay there for most, or all, of the day. They may or may not have parents or legal guardians. On a study says- street children were categorized into four groups: children of 5-14 years of age who work on the streets the whole day and

a) live on the streets without any family

b) live on the streets with their family

c) return to another family; and

d) return to their own family.

Save the Children USA has a program called "Survive 'Till Five". Between pregnancy and the age of five is the most vulnerable time where you have early infant and child mortality.

Save the Children hopes to change this with a series of medical and education programs designed to ensure that children survive until age five and beyond.

Community volunteers are appointed to be the link between their communities and the health centre. Save the Children has trained them to identify the main causes of diseases, promote best hygiene and health practices, and follow up on nutrition cases. With their bikes, Pierre, Celestine, Sabin and Matheus sometimes travel 15km away to promote access to health and nutrition care.

About The Project:

Pioneers of the emerging contemporary craft movement are urging people to join them to create a giant jigsaw embroidered with provocative messages to support Save the Children's Race Against Hunger Campaign 2012/2013

Graffiti knitting street artist, Deadly Knitshade, whose street art includes a Parliament Square phone box cosy and a giant upcycled squid, Hilary Pullen, writer of social media tip blog 'Craft Blog UK', and Mr X Stitch, an original manbroiderer, are joining the Craftivist Collective's Jigsaw Project, which launches on World Food Day on October 16th and runs until the spring, joining the campaign to put hunger at the top of the agenda at the G8 next summer and encouraging us all to be part of the solution to tackle hunger, not part of the problem.
