Dramastically different than the glittering sands when illuminated by the last sunray, the dunes were suddenly covered by a soft blue/purple color, just as still as another planet. I think the other photographer sitting there would feel just the same.

Heavy winds during sunrise meant ..I had to bear the brunt of a sand blast..but it also allowed me to see the beautiful patterns on the dunes choreographed by wind..

Grayling / hipparchia semele. Dunwich Forest, Suffolk. 23/07/20.

Several Graylings were alternating between sunning themselves on a stony track or nectaring on Bell Heather flowers. When perched, this species never hold their wings open and usually lower their closed forewings down between their hindwings.

The butterfly shown hadn't fully done this and was partially revealing a black eye spot and some of the orange 'brand'. on it's right forewing.

This is a picture of the shadow of a sand dune. Myself and tow of my friends stood on top, creating the three points as shown in the image.

This is a photo of wind-blown patterns in the sand at Clam Harbour Beach. The image has been mirrored and copied twice to be symmetrical. The detail is best seen full screen.

My trip to the Channel Islands was cancelled due to high seas. My consolation prize was a trip to Pismo Beach and its lovely sand dunes.

Great Sand Dunes Nat'l Park - to get an idea of the size of the dunes which really don't look THAT impressive; until you spot the person on the horizon on the top right "third" intersection. On the top left "third" intersection (just below horizon, just before the first "dip" in the dunes. There are some folks just starting up the dunes, they are located in the lower right "third" intersection, two humans and their dog. Now the dunes look HUGE, which they are. If you don't believe it, try climbing them at 8000 ft (745 feet of PAIN). :-)
