GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARK - COLORADO
My wife and I had just finished hiking up to High Dune and were sitting down to enjoy the view for awhile. I overheard a woman's voice and the excited screams and laughter of a child well below us and noticed a mother and her son climbing a dune ridge. The mother was steadily moving forward while her son would playfully lag behind and then run to meet her. Together, alone in this expanse of sand I thought of the bond between them and captured the moment.
Dramastically different than the glittering sands when illuminated by the last sunray, the dunes were suddenly covered by a soft blue/purple color, just as still as another planet. I think the other photographer sitting there would feel just the same.

Sea waves are green and wet,
But up from where they die,
Rise others vaster yet,
And those are brown and dry.
They are the sea made land
To come at the fisher town,
And bury in solid sand
The men she could not drown.

My trip to the Channel Islands was cancelled due to high seas. My consolation prize was a trip to Pismo Beach and its lovely sand dunes.
This is a picture of the shadow of a sand dune. Myself and tow of my friends stood on top, creating the three points as shown in the image.
