NYC DOT hosted a Safe Kids Day event at the Bergen Beach Sports Complex in Brooklyn on Saturday, May 7, 2016.

“Illuminated By Night” aka IBN JEANS allows safe kids to play it safe by using high visible illuminating and reflective materials. How many times have you told your child to play where I can see you? Wearing arm bands are O.K. but they can be easily lost by children. Safety belts work, but they are not that appealing. Your child will be more stylish and more likely to be seen with IBN JEANS.

*NOTE: IBN sounds like ribbon (just take away the “R”).

Tokoroa, New Zealand, Long Short Walk event held as part of the second global UN Road Safety week, 6-12 May 2013. Event organised by: Tokoroa Council of Social Services’ (TCOSS), Tokoroa Police, David Henry Primary School and Safekids New Zealand and highlights the danger for rural kids.

A Long Short Walk led by Tokoroa Police Constable Louise Samuels with almost 30 students and staff from David Henry Primary School highlighted the dangers experienced by children at a crossing en route to school.

Maraetai Road is a busy road and it is common to see logging trucks, tankers and large amounts of traffic during school drop off and pickup times.

Tokoroa Council of Social Services’ Megan Atkins said the community is aware of this issue, and is coming together to discuss possible interventions.

“We’d love to see better visibility at crossings, lower speeds where necessary, traffic calming measures, and more road and pedestrian safety education for children and adults,” Megan said.
