The Penetanguishene Naval Establishment built on this property was a result of the War of 1812, when the United States declared war against Great Britain. The land became the site of a naval and military base designed to protect against a possible American invasion through Lake Huron.
In the mine, the miners pull their personal belongings up to the ceiling and lock the chain with a padlock. Seen in the Fortuna pit, Mittelhessen, Germany.
