I thought that my little secret was safe…After all, who could possibly find out about my little misadventure this early morning….It all started as I forgot to put my clocks forward to British summer time, making me late riser this morning…….…..Having gulped a cup of tea down, and picked up my guitar and raced to the garage……And slid down the side of the car in my tight garage having placed the guitar in a safe out of harms way place first……It was at that time my phone rang with someone asking where I was as I was late……Thus putting me under more pressure to make up time, as I struggled into the car and fired up the engine slammed it into reverse and reversed straight into my safe place…..And despite my revving engine You could plainly hear the strings pinging as they snapped as the guitar was crushed……I quickly gathered up the remains and put them in the boot of the car and rushed off to my meeting, in the secure knowledge that things could have been worse…For considering that all of the CraZyGang were still very much into British winter time and had no intentions of moving into British summer time this cold morning thank goodness, and would not have been awake to see or hear a thing…..Meaning…… I would not have to face any awkward happy questions about the demise of the guitar when I got home……Or so I had thought….For it would seem that Millie has a story to tell!!!!...And tell it she did…...But at least I can console myself in the knowledge that at least Maysie-May and Halo look suitably unhappy to think that they might never hear me play again !!!!!!!!! I mean just look that face of Halo to prove my point...!!!!!!
Honfleur is a commune in the Calvados department in Normandy en.normandie-tourisme.fr/normandy-tourism-109-2.html in northwestern France. It is located on the southern bank of the estuary of the Seine across from le Havre and very close to the exit of the Pont de Normandie. Its inhabitants are called Honfleurais. It is especially known for its old, beautiful picturesque port, characterized by its houses with slate-covered frontages, painted many times by artists, including in particular Gustave Courbet, Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet and Johan Jongkind, forming the école de Honfleur (Honfleur school) which contributed to the appearance of the Impressionist movement. The Sainte-Catherine church, which has a bell tower separate from the principal building, is the largest church made out of wood in France. The first written record of Honfleur is a reference by Richard III, Duke of Normandy, in 1027. By the middle of the 12th century, the city represented a significant transit point for goods from Rouen to England. Located on the estuary of one of the principal rivers of France with a safe harbour and relatively rich hinterland, Honfleur profited from its strategic position from the start of the Hundred Years' War. The town's defences were strengthened by Charles V in order to protect the estuary of the Seine from attacks from the English. This was supported by the nearby port of Harfleur. However, Honfleur was taken and occupied by the English in 1357 and from 1419 to 1450. When under French control, raiding parties often set out from the port to ransack the English coasts, including partially destroying the town of Sandwich, in Kent, England, in the 1450s. At the end of the Hundred Years' War, Honfleur benefited from the boom in maritime trade until the end of the 18th century. Trade was disturbed during the wars of religion in the 16th century. The port saw the departure of a number of explorers, in particular in 1503 of Binot Paulmierde Gonneville to the coasts of Brazil. In 1506, local man Jean Denis departed for Newfoundland island and the mouth of the Saint Lawrence. An expedition in 1608, organised by Samuel de Champlain, founded the city of Quebec in modern day Canada. After 1608, Honfleur thrived on trade with Canada, the West Indies, the African coasts and the Azores. As a result, the town became one of the five principal ports for the slave trade in France. During this time the rapid growth of the town saw the demolition of its fortifications on the orders of Colbert. The wars of the French revolution and the First Empire, and in particular the continental blockade, caused the ruin of Honfleur. It only partially recovered during the 19th century with the trading of wood from northern Europe. Trade was however limited by the silting up of the entrance to the port and development of the modern port at Le Havre. The port however still functions today. Around this time, Luigi Marre built a honeymoon hotel here and steamboats brought customers from San Francisco and Los Angeles.[7]
Although Avila Beach still has a working commercial fishing pier and the inland areas have extensive apple orchards, tourism is now the main industry. There are few historical structures remaining; among the oldest is the Point San Luis Light, built in 1890 after a series of shipping accidents. During World War II the beach and port were used for the Amphibious Training Base Morro Bay.[8]
In the late 1990s, Unocal began the cleanup of decades old oil seepage discovered years earlier from corroding pipes under the township, and which had caused a massive oil spill under the town.[9] Over 6,750 truckloads of contaminated material was sent to a Bakersfield landfill, and replaced with clean Guadalupe Dunes sand.[10] Many of the town's homes and businesses, including several blocks of Front Street, were razed as a result of the quarter-mile-wide excavation. Southampton has become a real fishing port. I counted 3 fishing tugs in the little harbour. Benjamin-Charles is just one. On this day there were men maintaining their tug. Winter layup is the perfect time to do maintenance.
