Construction of Auschwitz II began the following month, and from 1942 until late 1944 freight trains delivered Jews from all over German-occupied Europe to its gas chambers. Of the 1.3 million people sent to Auschwitz, 1.1 million were murdered. The number of victims includes 960,000 Jews (865,000 of whom were gassed on arrival), 74,000 non-Jewish Poles, 21,000 Romani, 15,000 Soviet prisoners of war, and up to 15,000 others. Those not gassed were murdered via starvation, exhaustion, disease, individual executions, or beatings. Others were killed during medical experiments.
At least 802 prisoners tried to escape, 144 successfully, and on 7 October 1944, two Sonderkommando units, consisting of prisoners who operated the gas chambers, launched an unsuccessful uprising. After the Holocaust ended, only 789 Schutzstaffel personnel (no more than 15 percent) ever stood trial. Several were executed, including camp commandant Rudolf Höss. The Allies' failure to act on early reports of mass murder by bombing the camp or its railways remains controversial.
As the Soviet Red Army approached Auschwitz in January 1945, toward the end of the war, the SS sent most of the camp's population west on a death march to camps inside Germany and Austria. Soviet troops liberated the camp on 27 January 1945, a day commemorated since 2005 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In the decades after the war, survivors such as Primo Levi, Viktor Frankl, Elie Wiesel, and Edith Eger wrote memoirs of their experiences, and the camp became a dominant symbol of the Holocaust. In 1947, Poland founded the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum on the site of Auschwitz I and II, and in 1979 it was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Auschwitz is the site of the largest mass murder in a single location in history.
For me, going to Iceland was all about puffins. I think they are the cutest birds of all with their melancholic eyes and their wobbly gate. I was so excited to go and see them in real life!
The first chance to see these adorable little clowns was at Ingolshofdi. And I totally blew it! You can only get there following the tour programme which takes you along the whole peninsula, leaving only half an hour with the puffins. (although the ride up there over the black basalt sand is an experience in itself!) I let myself get totally wound up by the rush and I don't do well when I'm not able to take my time with an animal. I could have happily shoved Michel off the cliff when he showed me thé most gorgeous shot of a flying puffin he just took. (just kidding MG, although.... reminding me the rest of the trip " I already have a puffin!" was pure sadism!).
I got a second chance at Latrabjarg, up in the West Fjords and I did a little better there. Although it still can't compete with Michel's first fantastic flying puffin shot (keep an eye out for it on his stream), I like the look in those beautiful eyes.
ps. Later we learned that there is a possibility to go on a special photographer's tour to Ingolshofdi. Only you'll have to be with 8 people otherwise it's rather costly.

"Y por qué??", preguntareis... pues porque hay que apreciar en toda su plenitud el sadismo de la gaviota.
Parece estar diciendo "clávasela hasta el fondo, retuerce la espada, que se infecte, más, más, con saña!! ñiej ñiej ñiej" (sí, así se ríen las gaviotas... xD).
Vamos, que esta gaviota cumple la misma función que los loros de los piratas o las mujeres de los emperadores. Darle caña al dueño/marido para que sea más cruel.
Vale, ayer fue el día de la mujer y eso ha sido un chiste muy machista... pero se me ocurrió a medida que lo escribía y me ha hecho gracia. Espero no haber ofendido a nadie.
Existen dos versiones alternativas que mostraré a continuación... el porqué de mi elección es claramente "literario". Con esta foto puedo plantear el tema de la gaviota sádica, con las otras dos, apenas puedo reirme del curioso emplazamiento de la gaviota (en la del primer plano simplemente parece haberse plantado a vivir plácidamente en el sombrero del malo maloso).
Además, el color del cielo, el contraste entre luz y sombra, la sensación que me da la piedra... no sé, de ésta me gustaba todo, salvo que se ve más caballo que espadachín. No iba a ser perfecta y de ahí mi dilema y la necesidad de subir varias versiones.
Ah... de la estatua y lo que cuenta, no tengo ni la más remota idea. Si alguien conoce este sitio y quiere arrojar luz sobre el asunto, pues se lo agradeceré.

Guillermo Vargas Habacuc es un costarricense que dice ser artista. En agosto hizo una exposición en una galería de Managua y, tras atar a un perro a una pared, lo dejó morir de hambre. Según él, esa sádica, bárbara y necia obviedad era una manifestación artística. En Internet pueden verse fotos estremecedoras del pobre animal. La noticia ha llegado ahora hasta mis manos empujada por una campaña internacional de recogida de firmas para evitar que ese matarife acuda en 2008 a la Bienal Centroamericana de Honduras.
Guillermo Vargas Habacuc is a Costa Rican who claims to be artist. This past August he had an "exhibition" in a gallery of Managua (Nicaragua), where he took a street dog, tied it with a short leash to one of the walls of the gallery and let it die of hunger and thirst.
According to him, that act of cowardly sadism is art. Now this torturador has been invited to participate in 2008 in the prestigious Central American Biennial of Honduras. There is an international campaign to collect signatures to request that this invitation is rescinded.

Il lato più oscuro della mente umana. Quando di umanità non c'è più nulla, ma solo un'aghiacciante gusto della violenza. Il piacere che alcuni individui provano nel procurare dolore o uccidere, psicologicamente o materialmente, altri esseri umani .
Questa volontà di distruzione spesso si estende anche ad animali e ambiente.
Perversione? Desiderio di onnipotenza, di decidere sulla vita o la morte degli altri? Sadismo?
Difficile entrare negli antri diabolici della mente umana.
In questi tempi si assiste sempre più frequentemente ad eventi orrendi, in cui la vita non conta più nulla.
Oltre ai femminicidi, che ormai sono diventati una piaga della società , si assiste agli omicidi sempre più fréquenti commessi da giovanissimi, spesso minorenni.
Ieri la morte di un quarantacinquenne, un bravo padre di famiglia che aveva rimproverato un branco di ragazzi che tiravano delle bottiglie contro la vetrina di di un negozio. In 10, tra cui un giovane pugile, si sono scagliati contro di lui, uccidendolo a botte e massacrandolo sotto gli occhi atterriti della compagna e del figlio undicenne.
E che dire del volontario, autista di ambulanze, che uccideva, ridendo cinicamente ( da quanto risulta dalle intercettazioni) i vecchietti che trasportava. Certamente per una perversione morale, ma anche per guadagno , dato che era in contatto con molte imprese funebri.
Episodi simili ci sono sempre stati, ma mai così frequenti.
Sembra proprio che il mondo sia impazzito, non abbia più una morale, sconvolto anche da guerre in cui il genocidio e il massacro di innocenti è diventato una prassi.
Assistiamo angosciati a tutta questa spaventosa disumanità.
Ci stiamo forse abituando?

Victim blaming is any response that explicitly states or implies that the victim is to blame for the abuse they have experienced: victim blaming often revolves around actions that a victim could have taken, or not taken, to avoid experiencing abuse. My observations made it clear that victim blaming also makes part of the blackmail system, using chemical products. Psychology is also an important tool in the submission apparatus:
Severe personality problems find *camouflage.* No one thinks "I'm a sadist" or "I'm a malignant narcissist."
They find a belief system/social group that validates their most hateful, destructive impulses & construes them as virtues.
The most toxic and hateful people in the world are 100% convinced they fight for what is true and right.
For colleagues looking for more theoretical explanation, the psychological processes are splitting, projection & projective identification. Splitting means not recognizing one's own capacity for hate, cruelty, and destructiveness. The person is blind to the bad in themselves.
Instead, they project the badness onto some designated other. And this other person, via the defense of projection, is now seen as the repository of all that is bad and evil and necessary to destroy. That's the projection.
The person now feels fully justified in unleashing
their viciousness and hate on the other person, who is now seen (via projection) as someone monstrous who must be destroyed. If the person who is projected on responds to the provocation with anger, this is now seen as further confirmation of how hateful and destructive they are (this is what is called is "projective identification.") The end result is that the person can deny their own sadism, cruelty, and hate—while simultaneously acting it out without restraint. The Auschwitz concentration camp was a complex of over 40 concentration and extermination camps operated by Nazi Germany in occupied Poland during World War II and the Holocaust. It consisted of Auschwitz I, the main camp (Stammlager) in Oświęcim; Auschwitz II-Birkenau, a concentration and extermination camp built with several gas chambers; Auschwitz III-Monowitz, a labor camp created to staff a factory for the chemical conglomerate IG Farben; and dozens of subcamps. The camps became a major site of the Nazis' Final Solution to the Jewish Question.
After Germany sparked World War II by invading Poland in September 1939, the Schutzstaffel (SS) converted Auschwitz I, an army barracks, into a prisoner-of-war camp for Polish political prisoners. The first inmates, German criminals brought to the camp in May 1940 as functionaries, established the camp's reputation for sadism; prisoners were beaten, tortured, and executed for the most trivial reasons. The first gassings—of Soviet and Polish prisoners—took place in block 11 of Auschwitz I around August 1941. Construction of Auschwitz II began the following month, and from 1942 until late 1944 freight trains delivered Jews from all over German-occupied Europe to its gas chambers. Of the 1.3 million people sent to Auschwitz, 1.1 million died. The death toll includes 960,000 Jews (865,000 of whom were gassed on arrival), 74,000 non-Jewish Poles, 21,000 Roma, 15,000 Soviet prisoners of war, and up to 15,000 other Europeans. Those not gassed died of starvation, exhaustion, disease, individual executions, or beatings. Others were killed during medical experiments.
At least 802 prisoners tried to escape, 144 successfully, and on 7 October 1944 two Sonderkommando units, consisting of prisoners who staffed the gas chambers, launched an unsuccessful uprising. Only 789 staff (no more than 15 percent) ever stood trial for their crimes; several, including camp commandant Rudolf Höss, were executed. The Allies' failure to act on early reports of atrocities in the camp by bombing it or its railways remains controversial.
As the Soviet Red Army approached Auschwitz in January 1945, toward the end of the war, the SS sent most of the camp's population west on a death march to camps inside Germany and Austria. Soviet troops entered the camp on 27 January 1945, a day commemorated since 2005 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In the decades after the war, survivors such as Primo Levi, Viktor Frankl, and Elie Wiesel wrote memoirs of their experiences, and the camp became a dominant symbol of the Holocaust. In 1947 Poland founded the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum on the site of Auschwitz I and II, and in 1979 it was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

L'utilità di avere sempre la macchina fotografica dietro è la possibilità di urlare indegnosamente "ahh, quello lo voglio fotografare" e mettersi in posizioni di dubbio rispetto pur di scattare e sentirsi soddisfatti.
In effetti tutto questo nasconde un sadismo represso (il soggetto, eh!).

Come suggerisce il nome, è una competizione estrema di moto che si svolge in location altrettanto estreme. Una disciplina che parte dalle corse di endurance campestri e ci aggiunge elementi del trial e del motocross, condendo poi il tutto con una dose di sadismo: i concorrenti sono chiamati ad affrontare i terreni naturali più duri e insidiosi, spesso cosparsi di ostacoli artificiali come tronchi, grandi rocce e profondi fossati.
