A postcard published by the Topical Press Ltd. of 11, Wyfold Road, London SW6.
The card was posted on Saturday the 2nd. December 1972 to:
C. G. Short Esq.,
Littles Manor,
Sheldwich,
Nr. Faversham,
Kent.
The message on the back of the card was as follows:
"Friday 1/12/72.
Dear D,
At last I am putting pen to
card to thank you for your
letter and enclosure - much
appreciated.
The panto seat tickets have
been purchased and we are
laying in vast quantities of
this and that for the Festive
Season!
James and I are coming to
Faversham on Friday the
18th. and will pop up Saturday
morning - the normal Christmas
run - see you then.
We had a good day at Windsor
on Wednesday when Sylvia
saw Jen.
All the best,
I".
The 18th. December 1972 was in fact a Monday.
Windsor Castle
The oldest, and one of the largest, occupied castles in the world, Windsor Castle was originally built by William the Conqueror shortly after the Norman invasion of Britain, and has continued to house reigning monarchs ever since.
With 1,000 rooms spread across 484,000 square feet (11 acres), the castle sits amongst 5,000 acres of parkland featuring a palace and a fortified town.
The castle has survived the English Civil War, World War Two and a large 1992 fire, which gutted much of the Upper Ward requiring extensive restoration work.
An Enormous Sinkhole
So what else happened on the day that the card was posted?
Well, on the 2nd. December 1972, one of the most spectacular examples of a sinkhole was formed in a matter of hours in Shelby County, Alabama.
The "December Giant", also known as the "Golly Hole", sank to a depth of 150 feet (46 m) and left a 450-by-350-foot-wide (140 by 110 m) crater.
José Limón
The day also marked the death at the age of 64 of José Limón.
José Arcadio Limón, who was born on the 12th. January 1908, was a dancer and choreographer from Mexico who developed what is now known as 'Limón technique'.
In the 1940's he founded the José Limón Dance Company (now the Limón Dance Company), and in 1968 he created the José Limón Foundation to carry on his work.
In his choreography, Limón spoke to the complexities of human life as experienced through the body. His dances featured large, visceral gestures — reaching, bending, pulling, grasping — to communicate emotion.
Inspired in part by his teacher Doris Humphrey's and Charles Weidman's theories about the importance of body weight and dynamics, his own Limón technique emphasized the rhythms of falling and recovering balance and the importance of good breathing to maintaining flow in a dance.
He also utilized the dance vocabulary developed by both Doris Humphrey and Charles Weidman, which aimed at demonstrating emotion through dance in a way that was much less strict and stylized than ballet. It also used movements of the body that felt most natural and went along with gravity.
Limón's most well-known work is The Moor's Pavane (1949), based on Shakespeare's Othello, which won a major award. Other works were inspired by subjects as diverse as the McCarthy hearings (The Traitor) and the life of La Malinche, who served as interpreter for Hernán Cortés.
Limón generally set his dances to music, choosing composers ranging from Ludwig van Beethoven and Frederic Chopin to Arnold Schoenberg and Heitor Villa-Lobos.
Chuck Berry
Also on that day, the Number One chart hit record in the UK was My Ding-A-Ling by Chuck Berry.

Troy Andrews was born in Treme in 1986. He is 16 years younger than his older brother, James Andrews. He took up the trombone at a very early age (his first out of town gig with James was aged 4). It was soon after that his brother gave him his moniker, so it has nothing to do with his current height. Aged 7 he lead his first band (Tiny Toones Brass Band), followed by the Trombone Shorty Brass Band. Later he was part of the New Birth Brass Band. Troy Andrews moved away from brass Band music with Orleans Avenue, initially formed with a number of fellow students at NOCCA (New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts).

Swampy is a good guy I chat to on the Net. He's a geologist and he's currently somewhere in the wilds of the old USSR looking for oil. These are his photos and he's kindly allowed me to put them here.
