This view is from our window on the third floor of the Alpin Sherpa Hotel on the day we arrived. Note the laundry pole and bicycle on the hotel's second-floor balcony. The Swiss are very energy conscious. Laundry poles are common, much of their food is grown locally, our hotel (as with most hotels in the country) had no air conditioning, and one can be fined 20-40 Swiss francs for not shutting off their car when waiting at rail crossings.

The plant has been shown to have anti-cancer properties. It is said to have the ability to be selectively toxic to some breast cancer cells [Cancer Research 65:(23).Dec 1, 2005] and some form of prostate cancer, there have been exciting preclinical results against leukemia,[10] and other cancer cells.

NOTE: all public benches in the Chelsea Physic garden are gifts from Society members to serve as family memorials. They are all made of teak wood in a standard style and affixed on them is a small memorial inscription: convenient, practical and low-key.
