The only saving grace of these cast iron downpipes may be that they were an afterthought of introducing sanitary propriety to an older building which maybe lacked in sufficient number of bathrooms, kitchens and WCs... This caused such unsightly alembic of ghastly downpipes to decorate the facade which defies the imagination to the the wonder of foreign architects as it is a very British solution.
