This corner shop was a very useful household harware shop with lots of goodies for the DIY enthusiast - it was bound to cave in under the pressure of the competition from the big builders supermarkets.

now we have instead Fifi Wilson... Fancy that?

Fifi Wilson's corner shop on Chelsea Green sells hats that look like lamp shades and lamp shades that look like hats - this reflects the British art of understatement - showing off is for the vulgars - we prefer the sedate - like in a movie of Agatha Christie!

These flowers were brought to cheer up the local pub: an excellent business for the florist which customers take for granted.

David Wynne (b. 1926) was born in London, and seems to have had no formal art training. His figurative sculpture concentrates on movement, and includes most notably Girl With Doves (1970), The Dancers (1971) and Dancer with Bird (1975), all in Cadogen Square Gardens. Other works in London are Girl with a Dolphin and Boy with a Dolphin, the latter being at the Chelsea School of Art.

The pagoda was built by Japanese Buddhist nuns and monks on south side of the river Thames with magnificent views of it from across the river. It is the first pagoda to be build in any western capital and remains the only major monument dedicated entirely to peace.

Since its erection it has become a popular site for peace events.

Its purpose, according to the Buddhist Nipponzan Myohoji Order, is to provide a focus for people of all races and creeds and help unite them in the search for peace.

NOTE: This tree is neither ancient nor of a special botanic interest, HOWEVER it preceded the building of the new house: it may be that it was protected by law and it could not be cut down so the architect had to work its way around it and incorporate it as a "feature".

Modest effort as it may be, this should act as an example of urbanism to those countries (such as Romania) where entire public gardens, playgrounds and city parks are turned over to building sites (Gradina Bordei, Bucharest, trees lining the streets, etc)
