22nd July 2014 at the Clapham Grand, London SW11.
Country: United States. Style: Rock Music / Latin styles.
Lineup: David Hidalgo (v/g/accordion), Cesar Rosas (v/g), Louie Perez (g/jarana jarocha/d), Steve Berlin (tenor sax/baritone sax/keyboards), Conrad Lozano (bass g), Enrique "Bugs" Gonzalez (d).
Los Lobos started out in the 1970s in Los Angeles playing a mix of Rock’n’Roll and traditional Mexican music (corridos, rancheras, son jarocho, norteños). They are all second or third generation Mexican-Americans (apart from Mexican born Cesar Rosas and Anglo Steve Berlin - who joined the original high schoolmates from the Blasters in the 1980s). The lineup has been remarkably consistent, with only the drummers/percussionists changing. The band have veered backwards and forwards between Rock and Latin music over the years. Mostly placing themselves closer to the former, but including in the mix some Cumbia, Salsa or Cha Cha sung in Spanish.

I am not certain where this officer was killed but he may have been serving on the Western Front around Ypres and perhaps injured there but died in London? Battersea Rise Cemetery. Seen in April 2020.

Country: Britain. Style: Country Music.
Lineup: Michael Weston King (v/g), Lou Dalgleish (v/tambourine), Alan Cook (pedal steel g/mandolin), Kevin Foster (b).
Michael Weston King has been a long time presence on the British Americana scene, initially with the Good Sons and then solo. This is a relatively recent collaboration with his wife Lou Dalgleish. They perform both as a duo and with a band. For this gig, supporting Los Lobos, it was a slimmed down version of the band (minus the electric guitarist, keyboardist and drummer). In the past I’ve taken photos of Weston King performing solo and Kevin Foster with Hank Wangford (to view click on the tag of their names).
