In my backyard I have several turtles, the Eastern Long-necked Box Turtle, and also the Three-toed box turtle, at least, maybe other varieties too.
They evidently breed here because we see all sizes.
(I did see a Red-eared Turtle the other day in the street, maybe just passing through like they do in the wet weather. I placed him in a safe area)
This particular turtle (above) is really a pretty fun guy, he isn't skittish like most all other turtles. He keeps his head out even when I had to pick him up, he seems O.K. with humans.
He keeps coming into our sun room, he slept in there last night, then later in the morning he left to go outside.
I watched him eat wild strawberries growing wild, he really liked those quite a bit.
I've left pecans, spinach, and shredded carrots out for him, he LOVES pecans, but doesn't care for greens that much.
The other day we saw him in the doorway of the sun room eating an earthworm. heheh
(I could be wrong on the species)
He's a lot of fun to watch, we already feel like he belongs.

Le Great Eastern était un paquebot transatlantique britannique construit par Brunel en 1858. Il a été jusqu'à la fin du XIXe s. le plus grand navire jamais construit qui pouvait embarquer jusqu'à 4000 passagers. Sa propulsion utilisait une dizaine de chaudières pour mouvoir des roues à aubes sur les côtés ainsi qu'une hélice principale. 200 chauffeurs sont nécessaires pour alimenter les chaudières à partir d'une cargaison de 3000 tonnes de charbon embarquée. Le navire est également muni de 6 mats pour développer une voilure de 1 686 m². Les 2 modes de propulsion ne pouvaient être utilisées en même temps au risque d'enflammer la voilure. D'abord appelé Leviathan, il sera finalement rebaptisé Great Eastern.
Jules Verne a fait une traversée à son bord ce qui lui inspira son roman "Une ville flottante". Le navire ne resta en exploitation commerciale que durant 4 ans du fait de très nombreux accidents survenus face aux gros-temps de l'atlantique. Il fut remplacé par des navires plus petits, plus rapides et rentables. Il a fini sa carrière comme poseur de câbles télégraphiques sous-marins.
