Changbaishan (長白山 Chang Bai Mountain) has two separate areas: the northern slope and the western slope. Each offers a different view of the mountain. The photo here depicts the western slope of the mountain.

Photographed with the Canon EOS 6D + Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM. 10 captures stitched using cylindrical projection covering a FOV of 68.08 x 29.10.

This panorama shows the indoor view of the Bird’s Nest National Stadium used for the Olympics 2008 in Beijing, China. Here you see the chairs fade gradually from red in the bottom to white at the top. It also shows that when the stadium is not used, tourists are invited to ride Segways around the stadium.

This image is stitched together using 22 handheld captures. The original photo shows a 360-degree view but I find the “back” of the photo a bit distracting so I have cropped it to show a 180-degree sweep only. Photographed with the Canon EOS 6D + Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM.

This panorama shows the path leading towards the Hall of Supreme Harmony (太和殿) after entering the Gate of Supreme Harmony (太和門). It can easily be seen that all the roofs inside the Forbidden City are glazed in the Imperial yellow (reserved for the emperor), and their walls painted in red for good fortune in Chinese culture.

17 captures were stitched together using cylindrical projection, with a field of view (FOV) of 132.63 x 45.69. Photographed handheld with the Canon EOS 6D + Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L USM.

Nothing can quite describe the excitement of seeing a parallax-free render after spending the time to make the series of shots—not to mention carrying the gear to the location in the middle of the night.

The Manfrotto 303 SPH pano head is not cheap, but at last I do not have to make excuses of why the seams do not match and try to fix them post-processing unsuccessfully. This is the best purchase in recent years yet again.

I found this open space near Pier 10 at Central Pier. All the architectural landmarks in Central can be clearly seen here, as well as the Central Plaza to the right in Wan Chai.

The IFC is quite tall, and I photographed this with the 6D + 17-40 angled 15-degree from the horizon. Stitched together using 15 captures set at 24-degree each. With the 303SPH (the 300N rotating head component) it becomes very easy to photograph at intervals covering everything equally without much guess work.

And now we take a short break from photojournalism and marvel at some truly incredible cloudscape seen recently outside my window stitched together using 5 full resolution RAWs with the 6D + 17-40 f/4L.

I switched to using Autopano Giga for my panorama stitching as I noticed that Hugin kept on removing resolution from my high res captures—but I couldn’t figure out why. APG has been pretty good so far though so it is nice.

It is not a skyscraper if it does not touch the sky. And on a foggy day like this, the International Commerce Centre (環球貿易廣場 ICC) certainly does [1] (pictured right). Besides being the tallest building in Hong Kong, it is currently the world’s fourth tallest building and the five-star Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong hotel currently occupies floors 102 to 118.

The red building to the left is The Arch (凱旋門). It is an 81-floor 231-metre (758 feet) tall skyscraper completed in 2006. It is currently the third-tallest residential building in Hong Kong and is made up of four towers. The towers join at the 69th floor to form an arch with the top floors and thus was named “The Arch” [2].

In the middle is another residential skyscraper called The Harbourside (君臨天下) [3]. It is a 255 m (836.6 ft) tall residential skyscraper which features many “Feng Shui Holes 風水洞” originally seen only at the luxury high-rise at the Southern District in Hong Kong. In Chinese mythology, the dragons flow from the north to the south and so architects decided to make “holes” for the dragon to pass through. Accordingly, the apartments near these holes are more expensive than the rest.

Altogether these building complex together with several other few and the shopping mall Elements make up what is called the “Union Square” area of Hong Kong in West Kowloon.

This was shot handheld with the 7D + 100-400 during sunset last week. The color information is rather tricky in this shot, so I processed it mainly inside Photoshop Lab mode. If processed in black and white then the drama is somewhat gone, but leaving them in tact looks odd also. I might circle back and work on it more later.

Stitched with 4 captures.

This is a panorama of the Houhai Lake (後海, literally: “Rear Sea”), one of the largest lake in central Beijing. I past by this lake during my hutong rickshaw ride. The water is clear, the trees wiggle ever so gently, and the smog of Beijing seems to all dissipate.

Stitched together with 15 captures on the Canon EOS 6D + Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L USM. FOV is 169.12 x 59.84. It is cropped so the vertical FOV is much less than the original. Cylindrical projection.

As usual, I feel that one cannot fully comprehend an architectural space without a panorama, so here is one such. This shows the inside of the main arena, with the exposed skylight, which is both functional and beautiful. Form follows function.

It has been raining heavily in the past few days, but the rain does something incredible to the air — it cleanses it.

The Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade (尖沙咀海濱長廊) is a high tourist-traffic spot, and it is easy to see why, because it offers an incredible view of the Hong Kong Island across the Victoria Harbour.

Today Rainbow Teddy and I packed the pano gear and gave this place a visit and it did not disappoint. Slaving 30 lbs (15 kg) of metal and glass across town was no fun, but sometimes it is worth the tug.

Here at last the curves are smooth and continuous with the pano head unlike my previous attempts. And look at the clouds! Hong Kong can be quite incredible sometimes—especially on days like this before the pollution comes back to clog the perfect harbor view.

Since the dawn of civilisation, humans look upon the heavens and are in awe of its ever-changing patterns. Although completely abstract in configuration, it never ceases to amaze. Exactly what it is that makes these puffy clouds so delightful to see?

So I started to use a telephoto lens to do panoramic shots of these sceneries. Yes, if you use a wide-angle lens you could very possibly capture the same moment and then crop out the sky — but you see, when you crop a digital image, you lose all the details and subtleties in the abstract painting, and all you are left with are pixels in white and blue. And in this panorama stitched using 18 RAW captures, you get instead an image which can be printed with all the resolution in its glory.

Across social media networks, be it Facebook, Google Plus, or the recent rather unfortunate redesign of Flickr, there is an increasing need for some imageries which extend a very wide field of view. Call it a banner or cover photo if you will, and based on analytics reports I was surprised to find my panoramas making their ways to blogs as banner images. Well here is another one for you… though I did not really see my photography as part of a background image, for the sake of Creative Commons, at least that would be a possible use…

I decided to use the 70-200 f/4L for this after noting that it was mostly sitting ducks ever since I bought the 100-400 — and without a doubt, the vaccuum-pump action on the 100-400 does not keep a very nice steady hand.

Photography mostly has to do with framing, but photographing 360-degree panoramas possess a different kind of challenge as the frame is continuous, so it is mostly a matter of finding where to align the center point. For location which has perfect symmetry, I have found that putting everything dead center works out the best.

This was taken at the flag pole of the Ma On Shan Sports Ground. It has a relatively long exposure so as to hide the identity of participants. There was another shot where a man was seen stretching near me but noting that all the attention was given to him in this shot, I have chosen to publish this one instead. I will probably post the other one on my B-Reel Flickr account, which, since everyone is given unlimited space now, it might make sense for me to make use of them.

Also of note here is that the RGB combinations are not as pleasing as the CMYK spot colors. For those who asked me why I don’t use RGB as my identity, this is a perfect example why…

Recently during sunset, a line of disparate and lingering clouds caught my attention. They hung in mid-air, against a vast mountain with very delicate power lines running on its top. In the shadow area, you can briefly make out that it was captured near urban areas—it is that of the Tai Po district in Hong Kong. But it is not the focus here. The silhouette forms is what interest me, so I left them hidden in the shadow. Could I have pumped them up with some Photoshopping? Yes, I guess I could but then you would miss the delicate lines. Minimalism is the aim. When we remove the details, we can see the tiny details more succinctly, I believe.

Besides filled with plants unique to China, there is something special about the architecture seen inside 南蓮園池 Nan Lian Garden. No nails are used to construct any of the buildings—these are techniques developed in China way back in the 唐朝 Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 AD).

Situated in the middle of the garden is 圓滿閣 Pavilion of Perfection (pictured). Perfection (Sanskrit: paripūrna) describes being surrounded by adequacy and not lacking anything.

The Pavilion of Perfection is shaped as an octagon. The ponds surrounding it is also designed as a lotus with with eight petals. It is used to described the eight auspicious function of water used in the Buddhist tradition: 澄淨、清冷、甘美、輕軟、潤澤、安和、除飢渴、長養諸根 — to clean, to clear, sweetness, lightness, soft, moist, peacefulness, to quench thirst, and to enrich one’s roots.

In addition, the Pavilion of Perfection describes the perfectly harmonious human relationships, the perfect morality, the perfect merit, and the perfect wishes. It is used to describe a blessing for the visitors [1].

This panorama is photographed handheld using nine 7D RAW captures.

This is a 360-degree panorama shot from the docks of the Shatin Rowing Centre. It offers a great view of the residential developments situated around the Shing Mun River. Most of the rowing championships happen here every year.

An array of shoes were left behind on the shore by rowing participants, even though signs are posted everywhere advising people to not do that. For a long while now these “No ___” signs have become a historic snapshot of “what has been done near here” signpost for me around Hong Kong.

Noting that it would be something fun and healthy for me to do a bit of exercise, I am planning to take some rowing classes here in the future. And for that I bought a GoPro Hero3 Black edition specifically to photograph the scenery. So far I am not super impressed with its usability but we shall see what the quality is once I have gotten the chance to give it a ride.

Stitched with 12 captures on the 6D + 17-40.

After sweating in direct sunlight for an hour, I managed a seamless panorama without parallax horizontally, but it would appear that while I have setup the horizontal nodal point correct, I have failed the vertical nodal point so there are vertical seams.

But this is far better than my previous shot without a pano head [1], so it is definitely an improvement. (self pat on the back). Calibrating for the vertical nodal point is tricky, as it requires comparing horizontal lines. For vertical lines I just bring a light-weight light stand with me and compare with buildings far away. For horizontal lines I have to come up with something different.

Pictured is one of the public housing development in Hong Kong, where as you can see, the view is spectacular and the air is fresh.

68-image stitch. Captured with the 6D + 17-40 mounted on Manfrotto 303 SPH pano head + 190XPro tripod. TC-80N3 remote release.

The Summer Palace (頤和園 Yíhé Yuán) is a vast ensembles of lakes, gardens and palaces in Beijing, China. It started out life as the “Garden of Clear Ripples” (清漪園 Qīngyī Yuán) in 1750. In 1888, it was given the current name, Yihe Yuan. It served as a summer resort for Empress Dowager Cixi.

Today, it serves as a popular destination as well as a recreational park. In 1998, UNESCO included the Summer Palace on its World Heritage List.

Pictured is a panorama of the Kunming Lake (昆明湖) with the Longevity Hill (萬壽山) in the background. 18 captures were stitched together using cylindrical projection covering a FOV of 190.92 x 60.21 degrees. Photographed with the Canon EOS 6D + Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM.

I have to take a break from my photojournalism, so here is a panoramic view of the Hong Kong Coliseum (香港體育館), photographed recently when I went to attend a lecture but could not hear a thing because the sound projection at the “mountain top” was dismal at best. So as usual, I took the opportunity to do photography instead.

The coliseum is better known amongst the public as the Hung Hom Coliseum (紅磡體育館, 紅館). Although it was built for sports originally, it was mostly used for pop music concerts and other large performance events which need to house a large amount of audience. Opened in 1983, it seats 12,500 people and is the second largest indoor facility in Hong Kong, only behind the AsiaWorld-Arena opened in 2005.

The seats to the top of the audience stage is intimately known as the “山頂” (mountain top) mostly because it was so far away from the stage. But as you can see, it offers a fantastic view for panoramic photography.

Stitched using 10 full res RAW captures with the 6D + 17-40 f/4L. Processed using Autopano Giga 3, a new pano stitching software I just bought and am trying out.

Sunset is the perfect time for landscape photography, and it is clear from this panorama why that is. This is stitched together using 11 full res RAW captures with the 7D + 17-40 /f4L. It is handheld, but as you see Hugin 2012 does a beautiful job.

On the left hand side is a row of old-style public housing development. In the center is some new private housing development. And to the right is the New Town Plaza as well as the Shatin City Hall.

Different pricing, same view. Hong Kong is awesome, yes?

Situated in the middle of buzzing streets of Hong Kong, there lies a 3.5-hectare Chinese Classical Garden called Nan Lian Garden (南蓮園池) built in the Tang Dynasty style with hills, water features, trees, rocks and wooden structures.

Whenever visitors to Hong Kong asked me where they should go, I always recommend them to visit here. Not only is the garden filled with exotic plants unique to Chinese landscape, it also has one of the best vegetarian restaurant and tea house in the city.

The garden is completed in 2006 as a joint project of the Chi Lin Nunnery and the Hong Kong Government.

Photographed handheld, this panorama is stitched using eleven 7D RAW captures.

This is the setup I currently use for most of my panorama shots. It includes the following:

+ Canon EOS 6D. An affordable (and my first) digital full-frame body. Here shown without the battery grip, as it the Manfrotto 303SPH does not extend far enough for me to use the grip in order to setup the nodal center point correctly.

+ Canon EF 17-40 f/4L. The widest lens I own. This allows me to capture for as far as I can.

+ Manfrotto 303SPH pano head. For a cool 670 USD, this baby certainly does not come cheap for a slab of metals, but after wrangling with parallax I made the plunge to buy it. I have now shot several scenes both with and without the panoramic head and you can see that it does make a huge difference. It is quite heavy though.

+ Manfrotto 190XPROB tripod. This is a versatile tripod with an easily rotatable center-column which is nothing short of genius. It replaces the 3021BPro tripod which I previously own.

+ Canon TC-80N3. My remote release. You do need this to minimize vibration. A lot of my photos shot in crowdy areas are somewhat long-exposures. Longer exposure renders moving objects as a blur, and thus hides the identity of people, so if I choose to publish it I will not need to get model release from every single one.

This setup was used to photograph www.flickr.com/photos/seeminglee/9404825673/ — some of my followers have expressed that the tutorials are helpful so I will try to do some more tutorials presentations in the future.

I was going to PolyU to see a drama performance yesterday. Noting that I would pass through the Hung Hom MTR Station for this performance, I took the tripod and the Manfrotto 303SPH pano head with me so I can photograph the station on my way back home.

You can see that I have a similar shot earlier [1], which was a 360-degree pano shot without a panoramic head, and it was full of parallax error. But the earlier shot was done during rush hour so there were definitely more interesting things happening—you could do people watching, for example.

For this shot, the architecture is more pronounced, but more succinctly, you can see that although pano heads are not exactly cheap, they do serve a very functional purpose.

Stitched with 12 captures with the 6D + 17-40 f/4L. To accentuate the ceiling, these shots were angled 30-degree to the horizon, and thus require spherical projection to stitch accurately.

Someone on Facebook asked me how I could love the architectures designed Frank Gehry as well as Norman Foster. He sees them in different genres because they follow very different methods of construction, but I see them as the same—as pure expression of forms. While Gehry’s architecture is sculpturally organic and Foster’s designs feature very geometric compositions, they are ultimately about the beauty of forms. My art education from Yale is based in Bauhaus, so perhaps my appreciation of forms differs from his Harvard GSD background.

This is a handheld panorama of Terminal 1 at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). It was stitched together using nine 6D full-res RAW captures with the 17-40. I still haven’t bought a pano head yet so parallax is a bit of an issue, but I am planning on getting one any day now.

My mom saw some panorama shots I took recently and asked me if it was a single shot because I have been raving about the super wide angle I was able to achieve with the 17-40 + full frame 6D body. No—a full frame body cannot really achieve wider than 180-degree shots—perhaps a fish eye lens can but I do not yet have one. 8-15 f/4L looks good, will do some research perhaps.

The path on the Great Wall is tough. 20 years ago, when I visited Badaling (八達嶺), the northern section of the Great Wall, I was lifted by cable cars. There is no help at Juyongguan (居庸關). You must walk the miles on your feet. The path is steep—almost at 45-degree angles. Even though the steps were made of stone, many were already worn out. With the foggy weather in Beijing, it was downright dangerous. But still scores of people hold their will and climb up to the top. I was tired half-way through, and did not reach the top for this pass. If I visit the Great Wall again, I would certainly remember to train for it.

Juyongguan is much closer to Beijing, so the air pollution also seems to have affected the area. I had to do a lot of pushing and pulling to get some contrast back into this image, which is stitched together with 9 different captures with the Canon EOS 7D + Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM.

There is a beach at the end of the Ma On Shan Promenade (馬鞍山海濱長廊). It is called Wu Kai Sha (烏溪沙) [1]. Just a few years ago, it was quite a hike to get here, but with the recent urban development of Ma On Shan, you can now get here rather quickly by taking the MTR to Ma On Shan station and walking for another 10 minutes.

Noting that this is rather close by, Rainbow Teddy (彩熊 RT) asked me to take him to photograph the sunset. I thought that since I will be at the beach for quite a while anyway, I took the pano head with me to do a 360-degree panorama.

As the sun starts to set, the place has transformed from a beach to be a photographer’s heaven, and even in the view here you can see a slew of photographers joining RT to capture the scenery on the beach.

Because of the extreme lighting conditions, I shot this as an HDR. Altogether, 36 images were shot covering the -3 to +3 range in a 12-capture stitch.

I brought my tripod to the Ma On Shan Promenade and photographed this panorama of 香港中文大學 The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) today. It is a bit cloudy so I had to push it quite a bit inside Photoshop to give it a bit of color. Will definitely go again. You can see 火炭 Fotan on the left side and Science Park on the right as well.

This is stitched using 8 RAW images shot with the Canon EOS M + Canon EF 17-40 f/4L USM lens. As usual I have found Hugin to be the best pano stitching software available. Once processed, it is tweaked inside Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 4.

The Rotunda annex of the National Library of Finland, completed in 1906, is a six-story structure with bookshelves placed around an open central space. Gazing up or down in the Rotunda offers stunning views of the library’s interior architecture

The National Library of Finland (Kansalliskirjasto) serves as the foremost research library in the country and is a vital institution for preserving Finnish cultural heritage. Located in Helsinki, near the iconic Senaatintori square, it is both a repository of knowledge and a cultural hub.

I visited this place in August during my week in Helsinki, per recommendation by Alexander. I only had a 24-105 with me during the visit and was unable to capture its beauty in a single shot, so I have stitched together 14 captures to make a vertical pano.

I photographed this panorama stitched using five RAW captures on the 6D while riding the Star Ferry across the Victoria Harbour, so camera shake is a bit of an issue for some of the images. But I feel that it is important to have an image which shows the complete length of the ship.

If you zoom in closer on the right hand side near the helicopters, you will see some people hanging around closed to the deck. Those people are in fact not standing on the ship but photographers lining up to photograph this boat on the entire roof of 海運大廈 Ocean Terminal [1] where the USS Peleliu (LHA-5) was docked in Hong Kong.

The rows of architecture on the left are residential development in Union Square, West Kowloon [2] featuring many gigantic “feng shui holes” whereas the architecture to the right are commercial architecture in Tsim Sha Tsui which are part of the 海港城 Harbour City shopping mall complex.

As Hong Kong’s only university offering degrees in fashion design, the Institute of Textiles & Clothing (紡織及製衣學系, ITC) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (香港理工大學, PolyU) organizes a fashion show for their best and brightest students from their graduating class each year.

This year, 24 students from the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Scheme in Fashion and Textiles or the Higher Diploma Scheme in Fashion and Textile Studies were showcased, each showing 6 looks on the runway.

The event was held on June 26th, 2013 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (香港會議展覽中心, HKCEC).

Pictured is a panorama of the stage at the afternoon show before it started. It is handheld, so you will see imperfect seams everywhere, but it should hopefully illustrate the crowd and stage nicely. Stitched together using 13 captures with the 6D and 24-70 f/2.8L.

Designed by Arquitectonica, the building complexes at 貝沙灣 Residence Bel-Air located at 數碼港 Cyberport feature many of the key ingredients in Hong Kong’s luxury residential properties, as well as some WTF sceneries:

+ “風水洞 Feng Shui Hole”, the hole in the middle of the building which allows the dragon to fly through.

+ High density which soars to the sky. Higher density means more space around for scenery. This allows everyone to have a good view.

+ Ocean view. No one wants to be looking at humans when they are indoors. Well, I don’t.

+ Clothes hanging dry on the balcony. Hong Kong does not have a lot of space so everyone regardless of their income level dry their clothes outside. Truly WTF, yes I know.

+ Swimming pool with a view. This seems almost standard. There is a swimming pool at my place, too. But alas they are always surrounded by buildings so if you are super-private like me you will never swim there. Public swimming pools actually are more private because at least no one can see you.

Pictured is the view from the balcony of one of the apartments at 貝沙灣 Residence Bel-Air. Stitched together using 16 RAW captures with the 6D + 17-40 f/4L, processed with Autopano Giga 3.0 and Lightroom 4.

Photo by request. Chinese men playing basketball at night. Panorama stitched using 18 7D RAW handheld capture. Thus seams are not perfect and people are seen with their body chopped off, some even have body doubles. But what was requested is depicted. You can always crop out what you want to have a perfect photo. This beats posting 18 boring image on my stream.

The guy on the right is the same person walking in the middle ground. The seams are not perfect because it is handheld but it shows just how extensive the footbridge network is in Hong Kong.

The Kowloon skyline from the vantage point on the 6th floor of Hong Kong Arts Centre in Wan Chai, where I had dinner last night.

The tallest building to the left is International Commerce Centre (ICC) in West Kowloon, a superskyscraper in Hong Kong which is also the world’s 5th tallest. In the center is the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, together with the original Peninsula Hotel, with the Intercontinental Hotel (the original Regent) on the right. On the far right, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) in Wan Chai on the Hong Kong Island side.

Stitched together using 16 RAW capture. Also handheld, but as you can see, handheld pano is doable when objects are far away.

Technically speaking, this does not really need to be a panorama stitch. But I am obsessed with details, and if I use a wide angle lens to photograph this then the resulting resolution will not be as high as I want it to be. Also, what I pictured in my head is the sheer width of the ship.

And so I made my decision to photograph 10 full-resolution RAW captures at 400mm to be stitched together after the fact. At this resolution, you can clearly make out each bolt on the aircraft as well as the rain drops on the net—details which would likely be lost if a single wide angle capture was made.

This is a 360-degree panorama of the bus terminal located at the Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier in Hong Kong. Located at the south-most corner of Kowloon, it is the ideal location for bus companies to plan their last stop shuttling to other parts of Hong Kong.

The KMB (Kowloon Motor Bus) company started many of its first bus routes from this terminus, as noted by the bus numbers on the station, which ranges only in single digits — as opposed to the double- or triple-digit route numbers seen in most parts of Hong Kong.

Directly adjacent to the station (center in this photo) is the Star Ferry pier, which provides passenger ferry service to Hong Kong Island.

In this panorama, I have heightened the shadow area to expose the rust and dust of the awning covering the station. I am attracted to its geometric architectural forms and years of decay. You probably would not notice them when you walk by as they are well within the shadow areas, but as a lover for deadly objectives, it was a wonderful find for me.

Stitched together with 12 captures with the 6D + 17-40 mounted on the Manfrotto 303SPH pano head.

The Hung Hom Station (紅磡站), formerly known as Kowloon Station (九龍車站), is an MTR station on the East Rail Line and West Rail Line in Hong Kong. It is located next to the Cross Harbour Tunnel in Yau Tsim Mong District, Kowloon. It is one of the three Hong Kong ports-of-entry on the MTR network which connect directly to mainland China.

This 360-degree panorama was shot handheld with the 6D + 17-40 f/4L. It is handheld, so parallax error is unavoidable. I do not generally do location scouting for my photography, but with a proof-of-concept capture in hand I will definitely go back with my tripod — when I get my pano head. Any day now—seems it is a must buy item in my arsenal now that I started doing so many panoramic shots.

13th annual D.U.M.B.O. Art Under the Bridge Festival® (Sept 25 to Sept 27, 2009)

www.dumboartfestival.org/press_release.html

The three-day multi-site neighborhood-wide event is a one-of-a-kind art happening: where serendipity meets the haphazard and where the unpredictable, spontaneous and downright weird thrive. The now teenage D.U.M.B.O. Art Under the Bridge Festival® presents touchable, accessible, and interactive art, on a scale that makes it the nation's largest urban forum for experimental art.

Art Under the Bridge is an opportunity for young artists to use any medium imaginable to create temporary projects on-the-spot everywhere and anywhere, completely transforming the Dumbo section of Brooklyn, New York, into a vibrant platform for self-expression. In addition to the 80+ projects throughout the historical post-industrial waterfront span, visitors can tour local artists' studios or check out the indoor video_dumbo, a non-stop program of cutting-edge video art from New York City and around the world.

The Dumbo Arts Center (DAC) has been the exclusive producer of the D.U.M.B.O Art Under the Bridge Festival® since 1997. DAC is a big impact, small non-profit, that in addition to its year-round gallery exhibitions, is committed to preserving Dumbo as a site in New York City where emerging visual artists can experiment in the public domain, while having unprecedented freedom and access to normally off-limit locations.

Teenagers playing a game of football (soccer) on the hard-surface football pitch adjacent to a primary school located inside a public housing estate in Hong Kong.

As I mentioned previously, “standard” architecture in Hong Kong follow recognizable design patterns. Locals will be able to tell that the blue building the background is a school immediately based on how it looks [1].

Sport and recreation facilities are usually surrounded green fence. They do usually cause quite a bit of problem for my photography, but luckily there is a pedestrian footbridge right next to the soccer pitch—thus you see they are not only good for traffic but photography as well.

This is the same place where I took a photo for my abstract photography with the G12 last year [2].

This is a handheld panorama stitched together using 9 full resolution 7D RAW captures. Shot handheld. The keen viewer will note that the cars are completely chopped off and hanging in midair although their imperfection is shielded by the fences—so in some ways they might be good for some things? :)

Under the bright stadium lights, people in the Hong Kong exercise after a day of work: a football match in the middle, runners run around the tracks, and a team of folks practicing tai chi in the foreground.

Here you also see the densely populated neighbourhood surrounding the stadium, as well as where I photographed the big lock on the right hand side seen earlier in my stream.

I have always wanted to do large format photography, but the cost for the cameras are somewhat prohibitive for me. But I believe that if I have the will, I can do it. So I have been hacking this by stitching 7D captures together for a view which is beyond which a wide angle lens can capture.

This one shows the view from SML Universe HKG, and is the subject for my 寧 Serenity photography series. While the single frame captures can also cover so much, by panning the camera in portrait mode set to 17mm focal length, I am able to cover a large area of the sky as well as the sea.

The sea tiling is imperfect, because it moves. This done handheld, so the seams might not be perfect. Also my window does not open as wide as it could, so I actually had to use two different windows to get this. I wish that I can get roof access but unfortunately not. I would consider going to up to the mountain next to me to see if I can get a better view in the future.

After some recent success photographing panorama with the 100-400, I tried to photograph the cloudscape with the super telephoto to see if I can get similar results. What I aim for, as always, is the resolution which a regular lens would not provide

Unlike landscape which I can easily determine whether or not I have made a shot, I find the abstract forms in the sky a bit harder to track. So I will likely get a pano head soon. For now I have somewhat decided that I would just go with the Manfrotto 303SPH instead of the robotic heads.

Photographed with the 6D + 100-400. 20 image stitch inside Autopano Giga 3, processed in Photoshop CS6.

This is a panorama of the Victoria Harbour stitched together using 13 full-resolution handheld 6D RAW captures.

I used to avoid taking photographs at “touristy” spots, but I really hope to document the change of the architectural landscape over time, and so I will be doing more of these in the future.

On the left hand side of the photo, there is a crane doing some heavy lifting on the sea. Most of the newer skyline of Hong Kong were built upon landfills, so my guess is that they are probably in the process of reclaiming more lands.

This was photographed at the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade looking across the harbour so what you see in the middle is Wan Chai with the unmistakeable HKCEC. The tallest building in the center is Central Plaza. The gigantic object rising on the right is IFC (International Financial Centre).

Densely packed skyscrapers against rolling hills is one of the key distinctive features of Hong Kong which is unusual when compared to other international metropolis in the world.
